For those that have not followed this, a CZ452 was the basis for the test. Velocity was measured at the factory 24.25" barrel, cut off an inch and shot again. The numbers to the right of the velocity is the 5 shot group at 50yds and 100 yds.
The barrel is at 17.25" long now.

Butch, please refresh my memory. The results at the top are from the shortened barrel or the original.
I've found it pretty interesting. Thanks for posting them.

Thanks for posting.
Interesting that it appears best velocity (with these particular lots) falls roughly between 19.25” and 21.25” and not in the shortest barrel lengths.

The top figure is the original length barre;. Each velocity below that is with 1" shorter.

Boyd, what it shows me is in all cases except one is the velocity, except in one case, is still faster than the 24" barrel.

No wonder my 27" match barrel is only showing 1000 fps from RWS R50. Perhaps I should counter bore back to 20" and keep the weight of the rest of the barrel. Then there's cleaning all of that...
Thanks for the test results!

A 18”-20” barrel fitted with a bloop tube will get you sighting radius and velocity. But if your rifle is consistent with its accuracy from a 27” barrel why change anything?

There is lots of info out there. Slower 22lr bullets buck the wind better than faster bullets. Most of the pressure in a 22lr is used up in 16 to 17 in. Long barrels for slowing down the shot.? I think so.
