Shooting 40 grainers in a fast twist 20 cal barrel

elevation is 813 and in a variety of Temps from 50 degrees up to 85.

I thought I replied to this a few days ago!

I had a 9 twist 20-250 as well and had really good luck with it at the same temp/elevation.

Good speed and accuracy.

However when the temperature dropped 50-70 degrees colder, the 55s didn’t shoot very well.

If I did it again, for cold weather situations, I’d build it on an 8.

That's pretty much what I'm doing with my 20-250 and the 55's. I'm not running them very hard, only using 36gr RL16 and with the Berger 55's that gives me right at 3660 with single digit ES and stacks them up into tiny little groups. I don't expect barrel life to be particularly long which is why I went ahead and got an extra Krieger 1-8tw 20 cal barrel so I'll have another ready to go when this one goes south.

What are you guys seeing for barrel life out of the 20x47's or 20-250's? I was thinking 600-ish maybe a little more but probably not much.

My 20-250, using mainly R17 behind the 55 at 3600 lasted 700~ rounds.

Then bullets started hitting the target sideways!

I know a couple different guys running a 10 twist barrel and stabilizing the 55 berger. I think there is a good chance that what you experienced was related to something other than the temperature.

It worked in the warmer temps just fine.

Got cold and it didn’t.

What cartridge is shooting a 10 twist? Seems like you’d be losing a lot of the BC with a 10.

20-222 here 9T Pac Nor 3G...was a 20BR in its first life

40 V max works fine & is main bullet.....H322 for fuel......

probably my fav 20 cal.......or the 20 PT......or 20 VT.........

XS, I have a 10twist Benchmark in a 20br that might have came from the guy that wireless is talking about. I had it screwed on by my local smith and haven't shot it yet. Previous owner said he made a couple of long pokes on prairie dog with the 55s. I'm more concerned about dc than bc---dead coyote. Like many others I have my favorites and the 20br hasn't been put in the rotation yet, been using the 20tac and 20-250.

I shoot my 20-250AI , 8 tw, 26" 3- grove Pac Nor all the time around the 3770 area with 55 bergers and have never had one puff. It will shoot hotter loads, but the accuracy is best at this speed. It will keep them in a cigarette pack at 600 yds.

Longest kill so far, was tipping over a coyote at 631 yds with a chest shot... I still can't believe I hit him that far on the first shot...LOL.

I LOVE THIS CALIBER... LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

Kinda like it too....LOL.
