Tornado S Steel brush on douglas ss barrel disaster

Fortunately it was somebody else's barrel. It shot the throat out.
It must advance the throat, naturally, on the order of .010" (in my experience) depending on the condition of the throat beforehand. How did it shoot after adjusting seating depth and powder charge?

Throat erosion was about .100" Put it in the tomato garden and bought a good barrel.

Hey guys. I am back.. Sorry took so long. So I ran into a benchrest shooter at the range, and he had a hawk eye bore scope. He scoped my 6 mm barrel, and guess what?? crown looks ok . but the throat is trashed. Said he never seen one that bad. snaked skin rifling or something. so, since then, I have been experimenting with lapping compound and jb bore shine on throat. Its shooting a lot better. I have a theory now if I can grind the throat away, and get the bullets to clear the throat area. I can keep going with it..he said rest of barrel is ok. I really have nothing to lose.

1000rds from a 6mm in a button barrel? Yes its trashed. I guess its all in what kind of accuracy youre looking for. 5000rds on a 22-250 and it started keyholing? I think you went 4000rds too far if you got to see that so maybe you can rescue this one to your tastes

If it's shooting to your satisfaction, fine. On the other hand, nothing to lose but time, which can't be replaced, money and effort.

I won't even put a SS cleaning rod in my bore, let alone a brush. Too bad he had to learn that lesson the hard way. I'm sure we can all recall some hard lessons learned with firearms in one form or the other. Good to hear it's finally shooting decent :)

The craziest part is that the Tornado company even produces such a thing and sells it to folks who don't know any better

What do you do when your tires are worn out ? Just curious .

You guys are great. Yes it has been a hard lesson. One of the toughest ever. I am actually more hacked with my gunsmith who barreled it in the first place, for not warning me about the ss brushes .....But I am not willing to spend any more money on this gun. Its glory days are over.. its time has past. The stock has been rebidded about 6 times, and its super thin. Besides, its a hunting rig. All I do is shoot target now.. Plus I have 5 more bolt guns to keep me busy... brno mauser 220 swift 1in 9 twist.
Rem 708 Heavy bbl varmint special{1991) with vortex viper. Rem 1990s 3006.model 700{favorite caliber}. Win ranger 270 m 70{new rig}. Tc venture 22-250 5-r rifling. and a Yugo .....SKS.
Anyway, thanks for your input guys. I would sue the dipshits who make those brushes, but whats the use..

There are all kinds of detrimental/in-effective products for sale on the market. In my home state, there is an ethanol mandate for gasoline, but the auto parts stores still have HEET on the shelves. Some gas stations have green fuel nozzle covers for diesel and black for gasoline, others are exactly opposite. You can put any service class of engine oil you wish into your vehicle, but you may not like the results.

My point is, the consumer is ultimately responsible for how he/she uses the product they purchase.

Unless we're buying coffee in a McDonalds drive-thru, that is.

Swear to God, I'll never understand that one . . . .
