6x47 Lapua or the 6mm creed

Can’t decide between these two! I have almost all the parts ready to send to the smith as my smith has the remaining parts, minus 1.

Build is going be;

Kelbly atlas tactical s/a
Bartlein medium palma, 27” 1:7.5 twist
Manners t5 stock
Trigger tech diamond trigger
Badger bottom metal
Either an insite arms or apa little bastard Gen 1

Hoping to shoot the 105’s vld’s between the 3050-3150fps. I just can’t decide between these two cartridges

I’ve owned both. Like both. I’ve found the 6 Creedmoor to be slightly easier to tune. I use Lapua brass necked down to 6mm.

My accuracy node for my 6x47 was 3080fps with 27” barrel.

My 6 Creed is running 3140 with a moderate load in a 28” barrel.

105 Hybrids in both.

Is there one you seem to prefer so far? Id love to try the 6x47 as it seems to intrigue me, but wouldn’t mind the 6mm creed incase I want to play with 105+ bullets weights, little higher velocity, and the factory ammo is a plus as I have a few that I only reload for and it can be a pain sometimes in a jiffy when you forget ammo

Hard to say which I like best. Velocity and accuracy is easier with the 6 Creed (my experience). I still own a 6 Creedmoor.

One thing I will say about the 6 Creedmoor. If you plan to shoot Hornady factory ammo make sure the reamer used has the appropriate freebore. I don’t shoot factory ammo so my latest 6 Creed has a .110 freebore.

I don’t plan on shooting factory ammo, I just like the idea that if I forget mine or in a pinch I might be able to grab some. My main varmint rifle is a 20 tactical, and my custom 6.5 is a 260 rem with no good match ammo or even hunting ammo local for me.

Why wouldn’t you recommended one free bore over the other. I originally wanted a 6x47 but over the past couple weeks I’ve been leaning more and more towards the 6mm creed. Just hoping to get more of an idea on the creed really

The Hornady factory ammo will require a longer freebore than what I have. Bearing surface on the ELD is farther out than the Bergers.

Thanks everyone,

I’m pretty set on the 6mm creed I think? There’s been no issues with necking down the Lapua brass?

Do you do it in one pass with a 6mm creed full length die or multiple passes with bushings?

I do it in steps. First neck down to .257 then to 6mm.

I’d say it’s near max, some buddies run around 40 gr of h4350, but I never did. No pressure signs or sticky bolts with that load when I’ve shot it.

I've run up to 42grs of H4350 in my 6x47 with a tightbolt and flat primers. My nodes is around 38.1 but I'm chasing it the best I can shoot is in the 3s. I need to work on seating depth next. BB

I picked the 6x47 over the Creeds because it was faster, flatter and less effected by wind. it feeds great out of a magazine for PRS. Tuning it can be challenging. BB

I have 2 6x47s. A buddy has shot out a couple 6 creed barrels. I ordered a reamer before Lapua was making creedmoor brass. Today, I would probably do creedmoors only so I could have the option of factory ammo, unless the throat necessary for factory ammo somehow compromised the ability to shoot berger 105s.

The 6x47s shoot 105s up to 3200fps depending on barrel. Various bullets have shot most accurately from 3050-3150. You won't lose performance going with the Lapua case.

the heavy barreled 6x47 and the 6 creed shoot the same groups. 5/8-1" at 200 yds. The larger groups are most likely operator error.

Starline, Peterson and Alpha make 6 creed brass, not to mention excellent Hornady brass, so.......unless you want srp.
