American Barrel Company

Just received a 6mm 4 groove 8” twist barrel from Anthony Kiefer who owns American Barrel Company. I’ve used a lot of barrels in the past 10 years...but I’ve never seen a blank as beautiful as this one. Unbelievable craftsmanship. I’m confident it will shoot as good as it looks. Thank you Anthony.

I agree. He's gonna be a very busy fella when word gets out. The one I have now is probably the best barrel I've ever held in my hands. I've been doing this for a while too. I'm very impressed with every one of his barrels that I've installed to date.

And you find them how? I tried google but nothing came up for this.

To the best of my knowledge, American Barrel Co is still a one man operation. Anthony has chosen not to set up a web page or do any widespread marketing at this time. He has sold a number of barrels to UBR competitors as well as some other competition shooters. Everyone I know who has one of Anthony's barrels is very pleased with them. He is intent on producing the best barrel possible and I believe he has the newest state of the art barrel making tooling. He has also recently completed his heat treating furnace thereby eliminating a roadblock in his production. He no longer has to send his barrel out for this operation and does them in house. All of his barrels are hand lapped and he does all of them himself. I'm sure he will make it known when he is ready to up production. For now his barrels are sold by word of mouth. I have the first two .224 barrels he has produced. Only one has been chambered and I placed 2nd in the first UBR match I shot it in with a score of 501 versus the winning 502. It is a shooter.

One question Rick, heat treat? I don't know any barrel maker that heat treats. They order their steel that is heat treated to their requirements. I'm thinking you are meaning stress relief>

Yes, I believe you are correct, Butch.

I suppose if he has the oven, he could do both but I agree about the vast majority of barrel steel coming in pre heat treated.

Mike, a stress relief oven is much different than a heat treat oven. I'm sure this is what Rick meant. I believe the steel comes in about 16' lengths. It would take a big heat treat oven.

Butch, you are probably correct. I am only repeating what Anthony told me. I suspect that we are talking stress relief. He was probably dumbing it down for a ignorant person like me. I just know he doesn't need to send anything out anymore.

You're not ignorant and I know it. Stan, I understand the stress relief is the last operation before lapping for those that lap. Now I know some stress relieve after contouring and some do it before.
