Once upon a time I saw a catalog with an interesting gun safe. It was a steel drum that had a small safe head on the top and a lazy-susan type rack inside. You would bury this thing under the house when you poured the slab, with the safe head level with the floor. The safe head would be hidden under carpet. With the door/hatch open you could access the rifles one-at-a-time, rotating the turntable to bring the next rifle into view. I thought it was an interesting concept, although not without issues.
- You need to pull the rifle muzzle first toward you to remove from the safe. "Unloaded" or not, it's not a practice that would be comfortable for me.
- How you could ever fix a problem with the turntable or if a rifle fell over, is beyond me.
- You want to make sure that the safe head was completely water-proof in case of a water leak somewhere in the house.
