6BRA Ladder Test with/wo Tuner

There has been a few comments the short distance 300 testing didn't correlate the the 1,000 yard results.
Can you provide your the charge weights that 300 identified as promising that didn't work at 1,000.

I ask as i test at 300 and use that charge weight for 1,000 but will adj seating depth for fine tuning

2ndly when testing a new barrel using the same components (not necessarily same lot) have you ever considered tuning to speed.

Your test result from last year show 31.1 your new barrel shows 31.1 are they running at the same speed

All the Best

This kinda thing gets to me a little. We've got men that compete and are winning at the National level and we still have key board critics popup.
Then we wonder why more guys that are actually competing dont post on this forum
Read what they have to say that is working for them incorporate it into your system or not. Or post up some actual data of your own maybe.
No reason to try to poke holes in something these men are willing to share.
The rest of us want to hear it
Thanks, Bart,Alex and tom
Most of us appreciate your time
THANKS FOR SPEAKING OUT!!!! I AGREE 100000%. I HAVE LEARNED MORE FROM THIS THREAD, POSSIBLY MORE THAN FROM ANY OTHER, THAN I CAN TYPE. ALL YOU THAT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOIN, PLEASE KEEP UP THE INFORMATION FLOW, WE YOUNGLINGS APPRECIATE IT!!!

@urbanrifleman
When we have a zone established, small increments on each side.
For your .020-OTL scenario, like say this for a set: .016, .018, .020, .022, .024

Always making sure our seating procedures and die, seat the bullets very accurately/spot on.

We kind of hijacked ole "Ballzers" thread here, sorry about that Bart.

Mike,

I believe that group would have windage in it in a vacuum. And a totally flat tune is not what we want for agging at 1k. Very rarely do I see a "zeros" vertical tune hold less that 4.0" of windage. I can think of 3 targets in my possession that have (5 shot groups), and those were awful in any conditions at all both vertical and horizontal. I don't count this ladder as a "group" because I don't shoot the 3 like charges together as groups. I shoot one ladder low to high, then repeat, then repeat again. Takes about 45 seconds total.

What Ballzer would like to see is a ladder shot at 100 yards with that rifle and barrel combination! Then maybe we could see where (on the sine wave) the sweet spot at 100 is for a 1000 yard tune! A little reverse engineering!

Time to take one for the team Mouse!

Bart, any chance you both could shoot your identical tests at the other end of the spectrum? Yours at 1,000 and Tom’s at 100? I like Donovan’s idea about shooting through light paper at 100 while targeting 1,000 yards. I’m kicking around building a frame to set up at 100 to try this, but not till this summer.

@flamethrower
For "shoot though" testing, I use non-printed newspaper, from a local newspaper (the end of a roll) and made the target frame based from its size/width. As a suggestion: do to newspapers vulnerable thinness, which tears very easy, suggest to make the frame a 2-piece, designed so the newspaper goes between the two and secures it in place without using any tape, staples, or pins.

The closest 1000 yard range to me is 7 hours away so it’s not looking good!

I told Tom he is not allowed to shoot that barrel again until March. I think we are noticing a trend where they will shoot really small early one. Almost every one. At some point it makes more sense to shoot those small ones in a real match. Tom had a nice 2.5" 10 shot group once. Friday night :rolleyes: Hell with it I want to know too. Shoot the 100 yard sine!!

0097BE31-1FC1-4A1E-8786-0CF61DB36291.jpeg For us that are limited to tuning at 100. We have found some success at it.. this was the 2nd target I’ve ever shot at 1000 and my first ever 10 shot group... Tuned at 100 yards..

I may not have gotten 1st place or became Ibs SOY.......BUT We haven’t been completly unsuccessful!

I look for some real interesting things taking place with these different varieties of 6mmbr improved cases this summer.

What would define early on, under 500rnds on Barrel?
