If you could only own one rifle?

If I could only own one rifle, I'd be really, really pissed, and there'd probably be a bunch of rifles buried in cosmoline somewhere in the desert in a location only I know...

But the one left in my possession would probably be my .270 M70 Super Grade Maple...

To rain on your paraide "ground penetrating radar"

With that being said once you burry them the fight is lost. Look at all of those ww2 weapons that are being found. If there was ever a time in Europe to dust them off it is now and they are just turned in with some fan fair.

Wow, this would be a hard decision, especially if I had to go from owning many to only one.

I am torn between a Winchester Model 94 30-30 pre '64, I had one as kid and due to illness in the family, had to sell it. Regret it to this day.

Or my M1 Garand. Good shooter, .30-06 readily available, reliable, can still get a lot of attachments for it. Here is my 1943 Winchester M1 Garand.

don't see a bolt gun as any disadvantage
I hope this makes sense.

A bolt gun is great for getting food and such, but up close and personal - as in a combat scenario, not so much.
In my opinion only owning ONE gun, it would have to be a utility rifle. -- One gun for everything. For me, that would mean ... also the ability to rapid fire. Plentiful ammo, and ammo you could get from other sources, people, or even pick it up off of the ground in a SHTF scenario. (I actually don't have a SHTF or zombie killer mentality.)

So I would choose one of the most common calibers in a configuration that can accommodate most, if not all, roles. An AR-10 would be it for me.

I have sold about 5 rifles since last July and now I will have two rifles that are switch barrels that will cover the calibers that I shoot mostly .223,6Br. 6.5x47 and .338 I know that is two guns but what the heck.

yeah

i understand your rational. just for me i don't ever see myself in a combat scenario. i really don't see myself surviving many firefights. better plan for me is stay away from people and hide in a hole till all the bad azzes kill each other off.

Now i do enjoy hunting and eating wild game. Don't remember when it took a second shot to end a sucessful hunt.

I know it's not the point of the exercise, but I DO have more than one rifle, shotgun, handgun, and lots of ammo for all of them... Who's going to tell me I can't have them?

Back on topic, I'd have to keep my M1. It's nowhere near the most accurate or most powerful gun I own, but it's the only one I could never bring myself to part with. Doesn't make any sense, I know. Every time I head for the range, "OK, the M1 is in the truck. What else am I shooting today?"

If I were a pragmatic sort of guy, I'd keep my Whitworth Express in .375 H&H, as it would be workable for anything, anywhere. Or my Anschutz 1916 sporter because it's just such a happy little gun to plink with.

If it ever comes to that, here's my one gun. Nobody look under the beds, in the closets, or in the attic. Yep, terrible gopher infestation in the backyard. Dirt piles everywhere.

The barrels ARE rifled . . .
That’s some groundhog set up you got there if the lower one misses the five other ones could get them

A2938D17-2EFE-43BC-B5C0-15A53245A9C9.jpeg This here one, for a number of reasons. I have wanted a pre-64-70 in 250-3000 Savage for a long time. I have only seen three of them in 40 years of looking for one. It is not a 30-06 (although admittedly that is a better all-around cartridge). It has the coolest name on the market for a cartridge although the 220 Swift is right there with it. The nostalgia of being the first factory cartridge going 3000 feet a second back in 1915 is certainty noteworthy. They must’ve thought they found the hammer of Thor. The older model 70s are just burly looking. It was a divorce present to myself,(thank you Mrs.X) You can’t go to Walmart and buy a box of ammo for it. Most people say what is that when they ask you what kind of a cartridge you use to hunt with. It is nicely accurate for a factory rifle and easy to load for and puts meat on the table every time I use it. And it is a Genuine Winchester, you can’t go no better!
