Mini-Palma F-class. Too easy?

We had our first MiniPalma yesterday and I shot a clean 450 35x well ahead of anybody else.
I was happy with my careful wind discipline but it was fairly easy to watch the flags and just shoot my condition.

I'm thrilled with the clean and the 'win' but I'm also wondering how much of an accomplishment it really is.

I had the only 'real' f-class set-up. Anshutz 64MPR, T-36, Sinclair bipod, Protektor bag
We had about 10 in f-class but after me it was all Savage, 9x on folding bipod type stuff with only a couple of serious shooters and a bunch of beginners or casual shooters.

Our serious shooters(several definitely better than me overall) with serious smallbore rifles mostly all shot sling.
High was somewhere around 440 20x.

Is the target just too easy for anybody serious about f-class?

We’re going to have trouble with you in fclass ain’t we? Lol keep going brother! That’s what the sports are for!! Congrats on your clean also!

At 100 yards yes very easy but take the same one to 150/200 and hold on it is very hard.

The only Mini-Palma targets that I have seen are meant for sling shooters. If you are shooting on the same target as they are then, yes, it is too easy. If you have an F-class Mini-Palma target that I am not aware of, good shooting!

Yeah, sling targets.
I see on the internet others running these with one target which makes me wonder.

For me and the all too real possibility of fc shooters better than me we should make fc targets.

For the beginners shooting off folding bipods a tougher target probably won't be encouraging. We had scores in the 200s on the sling target.

Maybe we should have an f-practical using the sling targets. But that would leave only a couple in fo/ftr total.

My converted f-class score from 35 x was 440 and second overall. I'm still darn happy about that!

That's the plan ;)

I'm getting to shoot more f-class under match conditions locally which is all good.
No FC targets yet though.
I've shot 300, 300, 450 in my last 3 'matches' which is super cool to write down but on sling targets is obviously not realistic. Converted scores of 292, 295 and 440 aren't bad for me but not as cool to look at.

Thanks.

I would be careful comparing sling shooters ( diopter sights) to F Class shooters ( scopes)! I shot in a high power/F Class match a year ago or so and I and the other F Class shooters were trounced by an older gray haired lady (If you know her, you will understand!).

I learned to never look down on peep sight shooters! And this goes double for rim fire due to the shorter ranges.

Get the metric issf smallbore target, clean that one at 50y and 100y then you have something. Shooting a sling target with a rested, scoped rifle is good shooting but not earth shattering.

Never shot a match with it but I practice with that on a 50 yard 'pistol' range a lot.
ONE 100 so far and that was months ago!!!
Averaging over 96 lately but that elusive little 10 ring always dodges at least one even if I think I release them all well.

Borrow a sling and give it a shot. You can leave the scope on.

Not an option without shoulder surgery and rehab, then only maybe.
If I could have shot sling in the local CMP group I probably wouldn't have looked for f-class.

I own a couple of web slings and try it every month or so just for the heck of it but the clumsy mess that is the best I can manage makes the SR a plenty challenging target.

I have designed some new F-class mini-palma targets. Need too get them approved yet. Be patient the discipline is in its infancy. We'll get there .

Thanks, that could save us a lot of thinking about what to do. There is talk of us being sanctioned but I know of no formal MP rules or even guidelines.

Are your targets totally new or a half size x in the existing target?
I've made some of my own with the smaller x for practice.
If new could I have the specs now please?

I've also noticed that the 'sling' down-loadable mini palma targets don't actually match the informal(only) specs floating around the internet all that well.

In our local mini palma matches, the f-class shooters fight over the x count to determine winner. 1/3 the field is clean. I agree with the previous comment about moving the target to 200 yards... however I think a lot of shooters will struggle with that distance because they don't have the glass to clearly resolve .22 bullet holes at that distance.

Another option could be to simply drop the 800 and 900 yard target and shoot the entire match on 3 1000 yard targets. If you're shooting with a scope at 100 yards for all 3 targets it doesn't really make sense to shoot 800 and 900 - no adjustments are needed. The sling guys at least have to adjust their front sight as the target size changes.

Yep.
There is one F class shooter on here that used to repeatedly whine because there were so few FTR high masters and so many sling high masters that something should be done. Basically insinuating the sling target must be too large. Once he tried a service rifle I don't think I have seen him mention the target being too large. Interesting how it all changes once a person slings up and has to align sights.

Thanks, I was hoping for some first hand experience.
When you say 1/3 clean is your field mostly serious, mostly casual, 1/2 and 1/2?
Would your F shooters welcome an f-sized target or resist it?

Anybody done 45x?

Yep.

I volunteered in the OP that several of our sling shooters who finished behind me because we used one target are definitely better than me. How this turned into two people challenging me to shoot sling(which I'm physically incapable of doing) I don't know.
