what CALIBER do you shoot 500+ yards?

I've killed a couple of prairie dogs at 440yds with a 10" barrel contender in 17hmr. Rimfire is great practice helps with wind reading

So far it’s all factory ammo for me.
18” .223 Wylde AR15, 85 gr Barnes Match Burner, 600 yds at sea level
22” .260 Model 700, Eagle Eye 130 gr Berger OTM Tactical, 1100 yds
22” 6.5 CM dpms AR10, Hornady 140 gr ELD Match, 1100 yds
18” .308 dpms AR10, Federal 175 gr Gold Medal Match, 850-900 yds
24” .338 LM Savage BA 110 Stealth, Hunting Shack 300 gr Berger Hybrid OTM Tactical, set up for 1500+ but haven’t got to do that with it yet

The 224 Valkyrie and 300 Norma Mag have my attention.

I also have two bolt actions that came from family members but I rarely shoot them now:
24” .243 Model 700 BDL ~ 1972
26” .308 Model 722 ~ 1953

22lr out to a mile. :D

More practically, 280 imp, 308 Norma, 7 RM, 6br, 6.5-280, 308 win, 22-6mm, 223. Take your choice, you can make just about anything shoot to 500+.

My favorite to shoot out to about 7-800 yards is my 6mm-06 imp shooting 105's.

Oh wait... U said caliber. .223, 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm, 308, and 338. Hope to be adding a 375 in the next year.

Drag and, thus, windage are square law. Throw in rules about weight, sighters, etc. It's just impossible to talk about "500+".

why...you get lost in the math vs actual shooting ?
who said anything about rules weight or sighters..just an open
question
a 5.56/223 will do 500 plus( 22 cal)
6br (243 cal)
6 dasher (243 cal)
308 (30 cal)
30'06 (30 cal)
7.62x54r ( 31 cal)
6.5x55 swede (26 cal)
8mm mauser (32 cal)
7mm mauser ( 28 cal)
7 mag (28 cal)
7.5x55 swiss (30 cal)
300 wsm (30 cal) ( probably the rest of that family)
300 win mag (30 cal )
there maybe more, not sure!

For F class competition out to 600 yds
6BRX, 6XC, 260, 308 using a Gilkes/Ross action and Master Class stock
Depending on my mood.
800 - 1,000 Borden action, Brux barrel straight 284
Hunting..... 308 or an old Remmy 700 in 30/06. I don't shoot past 300 yds for hunting.

...ya can't stay ahead of the competition unless you figure out *why*

Just ordered a 338 LM Imp to shoot 500+ yards---you didn't say how much +. I do shoot 6mm out to 1000 and sometimes even 223. --Jerry

Anything bigger than a 22LR.

Of course now I'm gonna have to see if I can make hits with my 22LR at 500+..... Challenge accepted! ;)

I don’t compete but my 500 + guns are a fast twist .243 with 105s or a good ol 30-06 with 168 Amax.
