.300 Win Mag Brass/Data

I don't disagree about the price/value argument; that's why I use Lapua in other calibers when possible.

From what I've seen reading a *lot* of threads lately on this topic, two of the big reasons for the popularity of Winchester brass are the higher case volume and harder case heads. I'd be curious if there is any current production brass that has a similar combination, but with better quality control?

When I shot a 300 for 1000 yards, I had the best luck wit Norma MRP. But this was 30 years ago and we didn’t have the options we do now. I’d look at 4831SC and RL19 and RL22. Bullets were 190s and 200s. The most consistent brass I ever found was Canadian “Dominion” brand but they’re long gone.

Scarcity of .300 Win. Mag. is determined by the price you wish to pay. I can buy all the RWS .300 WM brass I can use if I accept that it will cost more than the other manufacturers. If the Winchester brass is available and cheaper, the crowds will swell and the supply will disappear, just be prepared to sort all of it. The cases which don't make the sort parameters go into the recycle bucket and you get some of your money back. Don't forget that there is also PPU brass available at reasonable prices. Maybe not the best but neither is Winchester these days.

Once again, it's a trade off. Pay $2.00/ea pc. and get 15 reloads or pay a lot less and get 3-5 reloads. This is the very same argument we impose on all the products we use; buy a Remington M700 or buy a BAT. Buy a Bix & Andy or buy a Jewell. Each product has our personal limits applied to them. You have to live with yourself and no one else.

How do you like the RWS .300 Win Mag Brass? Where do you order it from?

That would be difficult for me to say since I've been using RWS for such a long time. I'm in the process of moving cross country right now so I'll have to wait until I unload everything to weigh some of the brass.

Curious why these are not sold by lot as most components, how is the consistency when you are buying only 20 pieces per batch as far as overall weight and case capacity? Also a bit odd that there is only one distributor in the US for RWS brass, especially if it is superior to Lapua brass. The cost is not much of a concern if the quality is there.

50% is really high, even for Winchester! What all are you using for criteria to cull by?

This is what I got in the bag yesterday:

So... 3-4 absolutely unsaveable. Another 8-9 that have marks severe enough that I wouldn't trust them for match brass if this were my F-class gun, though someone I know that shoots Winchester 300WM regularly assures me that he's never had them split, or shoot differently, etc. Total 12 down, out of 50. Good thing I only needed about 25-30 more (than the 99 pcs I already had) for an upcoming event.

I've got a friend that got out of .300WM years ago, and has 6-7 bags of 'old' new Winchester, from 8-10 years ago. That ought to keep me entertained and (mostly) out of trouble for a while. Once that supply is exhausted, I'll be more concerned about what the .300WM brass market looks like.

Mine look exactly like yours, except i had alot of them with the splits at the shoulder/neck junction and most had folded necks.

Looks like we got the same brass from lot ME52....

That’s what I’ve been told as well.

Well then their QC is way better than Winchester because I just deprimed, sonic cleaned and uniformed primer pockets in 200 pieces of once fired Black Hills ammo and all the flash holes have been deburred and appear to be uniform and look pretty good. Now to load them and see how they work out.

Scarcity is determined by what is available and not by cost. You have posted three times in this thread every time mentioning how superior this brass is and how readily available it is for a premium price. Not sure if or how you are affiliated with RWS or Huntington but you have cried wolf one too many times for me.

Well, I've been out of touch recently while I move two businesses and myself across country.

I am NOT affiliated with either RWS or Huntington but I have gotten supplies of brass from both, albeit not recently. My first purchase a few years ago was from Huntington just to test some of the brass. Then I bought in bulk directly from RWS for a group of shooters so as to get a better price and defray some of the cost. I have made purchases through Huntington's before and will continue to do so when I need what they offer. If this information is not suitable for your uses, please use the ignore button so you will not see any of my posts again.

Best of Luck and good shooting!

I appreciate your time but your statements have not been completely accurate. When I mention that brass is scarce for .300 Win Mag you quickly corrected me and explained the definition of scarce and again mention how you can obtain as much as you like from Huntingtons for a premium price......except they are out and are the only retailer in the US.

Best of luck with your move and business!

I just picked up a rifle chambered in .300 Win Mag and looking for any load data for 200 to 230 grain projectiles. Brass seems to be limited to Norma, Nosler, Hornady and Federal and not sure which one to start with...any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have both the Norma and Nosler brass. I have been having the best luck with the Nosler
