.300 Win Mag Brass/Data

76 gr of RL-33 with 240 smk, 2,760 fps. 10" twist shilen, 26"

Did go higher but that was the sweet spot.

I forgot to mention that I use F.C. brass (from FGMM 300 winmag ammo), and 215m primers.
Could not get cci-250 to shoot as good as the 215m primers.

Don't forget imr 7828. Old but good. I get slightly better accuracy with it in my two 300 wm versus h1000 with 210-215gr bullets. I was using Rem brass but i got my hands on 200 Peterson brass this fall.
I'll be working new loads with these this Spring.

^^this.

Used H1000 for a long time until I tried 7828 SSC. Better velocity...more accurate. This is my experience in 3 different custom .300 Win Mags. I use 7828 exclusively now. I use 3 different bullets in my .300’s - 230 Hybrid, 215 Hybrid, and 208 Amax.

Maybe they turned away from belted production because it is too difficult to maintain their quality at an affordable price due to the unnecessary belt on the .300 Win. Mag case.

Do you know thi$ for a fact? Perhaps they, like others, just have a hard-on for b.m. cases.

77g H1000 is the sweet spot for my rig with 210 burgers , 208 Amax , 210 & 220 smk in bha brass (WW) with fed mag match primers

I've had lots of problems with Nosler brass - primer pockets loosen quickly on moderate loads.

Switched to Norma and so far - so good.

For now, only doing projects for which Lapua brass is available.

I certainly hope Nosler has improved their 300 Win Mag brass. I bought 100 pieces from MidwayUSA. The necks were way out in thickness/concetricity. Midway said call Nosler, Nosler said send it back to Midway. Neither would do anything about the problems but acknowledged that there were problems. Have not bought or used Nosler brass since.

Ive been thru 6 bags (300pcs) of Winchester 300WM brass last month. I am seeing about a 50% junk rate.
ME52 is the lot number.
I feel like i know the lady that answers the phone by first name basis by now.
Im looking for better brass that is not $2 a pop. Going to try Hornady next and see how it works out.

50% is really high, even for Winchester! What all are you using for criteria to cull by?

This is what I got in the bag yesterday:

So... 3-4 absolutely unsaveable. Another 8-9 that have marks severe enough that I wouldn't trust them for match brass if this were my F-class gun, though someone I know that shoots Winchester 300WM regularly assures me that he's never had them split, or shoot differently, etc. Total 12 down, out of 50. Good thing I only needed about 25-30 more (than the 99 pcs I already had) for an upcoming event.

I've got a friend that got out of .300WM years ago, and has 6-7 bags of 'old' new Winchester, from 8-10 years ago. That ought to keep me entertained and (mostly) out of trouble for a while. Once that supply is exhausted, I'll be more concerned about what the .300WM brass market looks like.

Curious who makes the brass for them? I found some for sale on another site and giving it a try. Did not realize how scarce good brass for the .300 WM market!

Lots of people sneer at Hornady brass. For a while it was all I could get. In .300 Win Mag, the Hornady brass has been surprisingly good. I have no problems with it.

I have 400 rounds of the older Blue Bag Winchester, if you need some, send me a pm. It is uncommon to find bad brass in this older brass, still in sealed bags.

Same thing happened to me. New brass was out of SAAMI spec, sent pics of measurements to Nosler, they basically told me it was close enough, didn’t even ask me to send it back for them to check out. I’m absolutely done with Nosler after what they pulled.

Peterson has been excellent in quality and CS, I highly recommend them for Win Mag brass

I haven’t ever seen it in stock. Hopefully one day I can try it.

Scarcity of .300 Win. Mag. is determined by the price you wish to pay. I can buy all the RWS .300 WM brass I can use if I accept that it will cost more than the other manufacturers. If the Winchester brass is available and cheaper, the crowds will swell and the supply will disappear, just be prepared to sort all of it. The cases which don't make the sort parameters go into the recycle bucket and you get some of your money back. Don't forget that there is also PPU brass available at reasonable prices. Maybe not the best but neither is Winchester these days.

Once again, it's a trade off. Pay $2.00/ea pc. and get 15 reloads or pay a lot less and get 3-5 reloads. This is the very same argument we impose on all the products we use; buy a Remington M700 or buy a BAT. Buy a Bix & Andy or buy a Jewell. Each product has our personal limits applied to them. You have to live with yourself and no one else.
