If you are in a pinch for 45 auto ammo...

Well that was an eye opener. No harm but, my kids have been home and we have some Australians here visiting. Been shootin every day. Shot up 600+ 22 LR today. But yesterday we were shooting hand guns, ARs and the 45-70. We had 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 auto for handguns. So we are about finished and I look in the truck and find a box with a dozen or so 45 auto loose in there that I have had for a long time. Pull em out and tell son to shoot em up. He finishes em and shows me a case that is split out the side.. I look at it and we are trying to figure WTF happened. I look at the head stamp and....... It says 40 S&W.. Surprise surprise.. No idea how it got in the box. And yes were have been very careful about using the right ammo in the right weapon.. FWIW the 1911 just kept on chuckin bullets in spite of the wrong round.. Now don't shoot the messenger, I just thought this was intersting/..

The undersize bullet didn't build any pressure. A good thing as 40 & 45 operate at very different pressures.

1911 all steel? I wonder how a plastic 45 would hold up?

I watched a young police trainee fire about 5-6 round out of his g22 with it not cycling, I had to give it to him , he did the tap rack failure drills till time was up but he had a single shot pistol
When he was loading mags , re recruit next to him had a g17 and he grabbed one of her mags and he was shooting 9 mm, the cases looked just like yours
