28 Nosler - 140 grain bullet load

Has anyone experimented with a 140 grain bullet in the 28 Nosler? I have a great load using 195 Bergers and RL 33. Now looking for something at the other end of the weight range.

Thanks

I have loaded both 140 and 162 gr. bullets. Try R26 and H1000. Best results were with the 162's and R26. nosler has data on their website

I don't know what kind of velocity you got with the 195's (pretty good I'm thinking)- I'm curious what the 140's will run & if they'll shoot well.
My 180 gr. VLD load (in 28 Nosler) yielded 3220 fps with a mild 86.0 gr. charge of Reloader 33 (Q/L calculated pressure @ 56.5K).
Keep us posted when you can on the 140's

The 7 STW and the 28 Nosler are about the same capacity.

With a zero freebore reamer on the 7 STW, we run the 140g Nosler C/T bullets at 3550 plus on 9.25"- 11" Twist rifles, I will not say how much faster. IMR 7828.

120's are at 3800+, shoot bug holes.

We are on our second reamer. Deer flop HARD at 550.

That's "Packin The Mail" & "Pouring on the Coal" For sure !! - Possible to get 1000 rnds of decent accuracy with the 140's & 120's ??

We have had a flock of 7 STW's in our family off the same reamer design. They all shoot about the same load. So, you work up a load, verify your rifle is zero'd from year to year. Barrels get low wear, and when you start off with zero freebore, you are good for a long time.

Amazing how far the 140g Nosler combined Tec bullet will smack the life out of deer. Naked 140's run a lot more pressure with less velocity.

Most of all our shots are 450 and under, and running deer are against the rules. Run the ballistics on a 140g nosler sighted in at 1/2" high at 200, see what your point blank range is.

My inbread cousins in Mo. have the 120g Nosler Solid base lead tip that they shoot at 3800 + fps. . I have called Nosler and tried to get them to come out with a 120g Accubond, but they are not interested.

It would be a wild man that ordered a 28 Nosler reamer from PTG with zero freebore to shoot the 120 & 140g C/T bullets.

Brother shot a 280 lb buck in Kansas at 550 yards with the 140's at warp speed(3550+) out of a 11 twist Pac Nor three groove. That buck is a monster, old..did not have brow tines. He hit the ground and never moved an inch.

Here is the absolute truth, the 120's shoot bug holes at 100 at 3850 and less than an inch at 300, 120g Nosler and tipped tripple shock. This is NOT a target round, accuracy comes quick, then verify zero, call it done.

140g C/T in a zero freebore throat with IMR 7828, fed 215 shoots bug holes, deer just die, rarely ever kick. 140g Barnes tipped tripple shock are ungodly accurate, same load jumping .050, bullets stuffed down in the case, defies all logic and common wisdom. Wish I had 2500 winchester cases.

Not a 28 Nosler but in a 7mm RUM I am shooting a 143 grain Hammer non-lead at 3,600+fps with Reloder 26 and the way it flattens game is something to behold, carries 1000+ft/lbs out to 1,000 yards and is very flat shooting. I was just playing around with this load until I burned the 1:9" twist barrel out as I needed an 8 twist for the heavier non-lead 180's but I really like this load ! I kind of want to see how fast the 130's will go.

Here is the issue with barrel life. Most of the 120 and 140g bullets like to be seated very close if not touching the lands, excepeption of course is the 120g ttsx which we jump at .050.

If a guy wants to shoot 120-140g bullets, just get a reamer with zero freebore with 1 1/2* leade angle, you will get long barrel life with amazing accuracy...Imr 7828 or R#22, fed 215's.

I killed a 360 lb whitetail at 550 yards in Kansas with the 140g nosler c/T bullet, and it slammed his butt straight down to the ground!

Most guys would never believe the accuracy of a 120g Nosler or ttsx at 3850, they are groups in the 2's.

The family has killed more deer with the 140g Nosler C/T bullet than the 140g TTsx. Deer at 450 will often run with the ttsx, but not with the C/T bullet.
