Now that riflemansjournal has been down a bit..

Is anyone here running .30-06(or 30-06AI, etc..) with utmost accuracy/precision(match shooters, or even recreational shooters and/or hunters who put demand a lot accuracy wise)in mind?
Thanks yall!

I'm a pretty big fan of the old 06. I just recently finished putting together a Savage 110 with an 26" Excalibur 1:11 twist heavy barrel with a Harrels muzzle brake. I dropped it into a Savage 112 BVSS stock. I still need to pillar bed and do some trigger work but it's shooting 168 Amax into pretty small groups.

Just me I guess.. Utmost, not even close though.
I just had a 700 action cleaned up, cryochecked a 27" Douglas, Heavy match 1:9 barrel and dropped into in an XLR chassis, with a Huberworks trigger.
Seeing some great groups from the new 200 and 212gr ELD-x, Haven't tried anything much heavier, but I'm sure it would take it.

Along with you. I've been keeping my '06 ready for a new barrel for some time. Still shoots 190s great, but just not my go to rifle... Maybe it's my low supply of h4350 that's been keeping me waiting.

I just rebarreled mine this past spring, haven' gotten around to fully working up a load yet, but it' shooting 175smk quite well for fire forming. I have yet to try any of the loads German had listed in the blog, but I intend too.

.30-06 just keep on shooting. I have an '03 Springfield that I sporterized many years ago that still keeps most loads well under an inch. I found it as a barreled action in apparently unfired condition. Original barrel as when it left the factory...100 years ago (made by Rock Island Arsenal in 1917). The old '06 has earned a spot in everyone's rifle safe.

I built a model 700 in 30-06.

24" Lilja 3 groove barrel, Sendero taper, 1/10 twist, currently in a B&C M40 stock wearing a Burris XTRII 3-15x. With 56.5g of RS Hunter, it will stack 190g SMK's in a hole at 100yds, and stays under 3/4 MOA at 200yds. I intended to put it on paper at distance this summer but never got to it.

06 is my go to rifle . Recently sold several , just too many to tend too . My favorite is a 721 that was rebarreled with a Shilen select grade . Smith did the works to the reciever , bedding , and trigger , had him leave the cosmetics of the original stock as was , plain Jane and scuffed . He did good , it has a consistent cold shot that is better than anything I have ever shot . This rifle will never go anywhere bought it for 150.00 with a 284 barrel on it . Never fired it with that barrel , just rebarreled it .

I have a browning bar.. I know it's a semi auto ... took me a lot of messing around but I got it so half are under an inch and the other half a little over ... average comes out to around just over an inch.. I feel pretty good with that being what it is ... it was my grandpas deer hunting gun that got passed down to me ... now I only take it out hunting on sunny days

My old '06 is on its third barrel now.
The Smith talked me into an AI thus time around, I am well pleased with his recommendation.
180 Nosler AB out past 800, no problem. Lilja 3 grove finished at 26", 180's at 2998 behind a healthy load of H4350. I had it up to a higher node at 3080 but got ejector marks when the temps hit 103.
I can comfortably hit my ball cap at 700 yards without question.
Of all the options in the safe, when it's time to chase elk, I carry my '06.

Edit, I reread the op

For computation, I shoot a dasher. My '06 will not run with my Dasher at 600 or a 1000. Can't say say I know what it is that makes a difference.....maybe just some Dowling magic in that Dasher. I do shoot (just acquired it a few months ago) a straight 284 for f-class comps at 1000, it cannot run with my Dasher either. I would also say out right, my '06 shoots as well as my 284. I just will not abuse (use) it like I do my comp rifles.

I have not tried 4350 in mine ... one of the few powders.. obviously you have had good luck with it ... is it a fairly popular powder for the 06?

I've been running 165's ... heavy considered like 200's? And reloader with heavys or just in general?
180g is pretty much the traditional bullet weight for 30-06. 200g and heavier are heavy in this caliber, but it handles them just fine.Any of the 4350's or 4831's and Ramshot Hunter have all worked well. I don't use Alliant powders so can't comment on those.

30-06 is one of the most forgiving cartridges in existence. You can pick almost any 180g bullet, put a mid-range load in it, sight it in and go to the woods. That is an exaggeration, but only a slight one.

Hmm good to know ... maybe I'll have to try some .. I don't think I have tried anything that heavy in it .. will consult my record books some time

If I were you, I would just let that info alone. If those loads are accurate, he's running those at 300 winmag speeds out of an '06. I wouldn't touch'em.

Well that particular poster that claimed the 3000+ w/ 180s did say it was a -06AI.. as far as M14 I was just curious what he was running because that pic he posted looks like a helluva rifle!
