DTACS - shipping rediculous???

I went to buy some DTACS yesterday on TUBBs website.. they were in stock...

shipping $20? in state? ups... freaking rediculous for a box of bullets considering a USPS flat rate box is $6-7....

just curious... those of you that have bought them... did yall pay that much for shipping too?

The price to my door is all that matters including sales tax if any. Some places low-ball a price hoping you won't catch the shipping cost which makes up for it. Midsouth or MidwayUSA will not burn you on shipping. Natchez has always been too high.

Maybe I can help a little here. I also live in the Panhandle of Texas as David does. Pony express runs through Canadian on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Freight Mule team runs on Mondays to Amarillo. Canadian is 100 miles from Amarillo. Or, a hard day Pony Express or 3 Days Mule Team. I would guess your bullets were overweight for Pony Express and had to ship Mule Team. Lets face it, mules are expensive to feed. Bullets are heavy.

At one time I was thinking that Sinclair had a flat shipping rate on bullets.

True, but what they do have is for like $50.00 you get "FREE" shipping for 1 year. I realize that it isn't exactly free, but if you are like me and buy lots from them, it's great. Especially if all you need is a 5 dollar widgit and you used to wait till you had a big order to justify the shipping!! Now just click and buy!!

Shipping is expensive. Just part of the cost of doing what we do. If I’m guessing David uses UPS because they will pick up at his place. Berger also ships UPS primarily with similar cost.

Unfortunately, this points out the necessity of shopping around for product price vs shipping price. This is a PIA, I know, as I've adopted this procedure for the last couple of years. It takes time to do this type of comparison shopping but it can prove out in the end. Once you find the companies which offer flat rate shipping or have the better shipping prices, you can curb the time needed to do those comparisons.

The trick can be those companies which offer less expensive shipping often increase the prices on their products to cover that lower rate. Don't be fooled. Run the comparison before hitting that 'Purchase' button! Remember, most in-state companies can't compete with out-of-state companies because of the combination of shipping PLUS tax. They winning method is to make a stock up trip to visit those companies, especially if it involves powder and primers. Do not be fooled by offers of 'Free Shipping' either. Far too many companies relegate those deliveries to a combination of UPS/FEDX/USPS which can add 7-10 days to what should a normal delivery schedule. I have tracked packages which have sat in a postal terminal for 3 days without moving because they had time on the delivery agreement.

Bear in mind that UPS has announced their newest price increases for the rest of this year:

The problem is Tubbs holds all rights on the D-TAC. Besides him I believe only one or two places you can buy them. Matt

USPS flat rate is the best shipping going as far as price goes. You get a tracking number and I've never been denied because of weight, including bulk lead. You can go to the USPS site and place a free order on boxes that get shipped to your door, it's no wonder they are not profitable. It's too bad more retailers don't take advantage of it. Tubbs, like others, probably find it much easier to use a pick up service and you can't blame them for that, I've been in Bruno's, since they are one block away, and I have seen the amount they ship at the end of day. It's a big help when your shipping is done at your doorstep.

true... convinience for the store, consumer pays for it.. ha

thats why big places like midwayusa shipping is cheaper... they ship so much they get discounts on shipping, pass that along to the consumer and you grow an impire the small mom and pop shop cant compete against..

Vendors who use UPS is a matter of choice, because they print their own label in-house, charge the customer any rate they chose, and they even get a rebate on their cost.
Whereas on a flat rate postal label everyone's cost is the same.
There is no overcharge to the customer, and they pickup at my door daily. LDS
