Gun safe recommendations

Yea,
Im sure yours are the sole exemption.

Not really, they just seem like it to Larry....who, dope addicts and others that don't know any better aside, would bother to heist a Savage???? LOL
Actually, Larry is correct about the getting in a safe quick with the right tool thing. But, thieve's are looking for that fast hit, so gun safes/vaults are effective. So is a dog in most cases...and it don't take a bone crushing dope dealers breed to work either. All the dog really has to do is make enough noise that the thief thinks he might get noticed. I have a ratchet mouthed little Jack Daniels that gets it done.
I have cameras on my house and that works as good as anything, a picture is worth a thousand words. Most crooks have been to court and experienced that free ride and how easy it is to get away with it. But, even the most communist, liberal, left wing democrat judge {covers just about all of them} or jury cant overlook a photo of the crime going down.

Even a full sized Fatboy safe won't get 30 scoped guns in and I believe it's rated for 64. Vault room under the concrete porch. 12" walls and 8" ceiling. Vault door of your choice. Alarm system with a siren is the best deterrent. Given your budget restrictions I don't know what to recommend though.

Like has been pointed out already; if they want in bad enough, they get in. Never put one in the garage and bolt whatever you get to the floor in the corner of the room. Build cabinets on the exposed side. That's your best bet to slow down a determined thief.

There is something to msinc's argument about the cameras. With ingenuity and firm resolve, brut strength and awkwardness just about any obstacle can be overcome.

In my searching, the high end safes were better finished and sturdier than the lower priced ones. My safe does not hold what it is touted to but that is because all of them are made to hold hunting rifles without scopes. It's not really disingenuous, just misleading.

A key issue is whether or not they offer delivery and what delivery entails. Some Companies will drop off at the door, that's it. You want a company that's going to bring it inside and rest it where you want it.

Come to my house and see if you want to jump the fence .
My bet you will ring me to let you in the gate.
This reminds me of the guy that was
In The parking lot and as the kid if his dog would bite The kid said no so he reached over to pet the dog in the truck it tore his hand up . He said to the kid I thought you said your dog don't bite kid said That isn't my dog .
Trust all my dogs will bite . Their food of choice is someone in my yard lol Larry

A friend of a friend said the same thing to me. Six McDonalds cheese burgers and I walked right past them. The guy at the window thought I was crazy for buying 10 burgers. Sure they barked but as soon as the first burger bounced off the nose they all stopped. The last 4 I tossed back to the good dogs as I went in. He was very mad but it proved a point. Dogs are not that great. Plus I have killed enough of them over the years to know they are not as tough as people think they are. Like I have said in the past they are very easy to kill. I do not know why anyone is afraid of them.

Your burgers won't work with my dogs, though they do like their animal/human raw meat and bones.

Thank
I wouldn't respond whe he said he had killed
Many .
Larry

He'd last about 2 minutes on my property with my dogs out there, before becoming a meal.

If you are average strength killing a dog is easy. If you bring weapons to the show they just don't stand a chance. Sure you might need stiches, but dogs will be gone or needing put down.

If you guys want to hear chicken (egg/meat bird) stories I will post some. Seriously even bad ass dogs are not that tough.

lets get back on track. the op asked about buying himself a new safe. not about dogs and hamburgers.we have all seen enough movies to know how to defeat "the dogs" "the cameras" " the safe". some safes are better than others of course. costco, sams club, cabelas, liberty, cold steal, even home depot. for me,I am concerned about fire rating. that would be the worst, to have your house burn down and loose all you guns also. my biggest safe has a 4 hour fire rating and it only holds 24 scoped rifles 44x30x60 outside.. it is an older double door meilink

Back onto safes, so far, I've discovered that my impressive-looking safe is really just a 12 gauge box with a bunch of drywall for insulation.
that is all they are. some have thicker drywall so they can say the fire rating is better- some reasons i wont pay up for one.

yes from the point of view of having to move a big heavy box around. But im paranoid and did not want anybody setting my safe in place because i didnt want them to know where it is so i went to the store, had them load it in my truck and took it where i wanted and installed it myself. no one knows where it is but me. not letting anyone know where your safe is - one of the best defences

That is the best but in some situations you can't move it by yourself, mine took three men to move because of the weight, I had no other choice.

Remove the drywall from your safe and replace it with fire-board. Drywall is used in safes for two reasons; it is inexpensive, and adds weight to the safe. Though a safe gives you piece of mind, it is also a moisture trap due to the drywall, and is the reason safe dealers and manufacturers sell accessories to fight moisture and corrosion:rolleyes:

If I needed a safe, I would never let anyone deliver it. A few years back, in Rancho Sante fe (San Diego Old Money) a large boom truck drove up to the gate of a mansion. The driver had the code, entered it and drove up the long drive through the orange groves to the home that was not visible from any neighboring estates. The security system was disabled, again by someone who had the code. A couple of holes were poked through the walls in the right places and a cable was placed around the very large jewelry safe and it was pulled through the wall with the truck's winch. Then the safe was loaded on the back with the trucks boom, covered to look professional, and the truck drove slowly away. Security companies who install safes and security systems do their best to ensure nothing like this happens but every company has bad employees, ex-employees, and perhap disgruntled employees; not to mention if a hacker gets into their database a large population could be at risk.

Late to the party but I was in Costco yesterday and they had safe's there.. Not a huge variety but the same brand as some I saw at Cabelas later that day for a great price and much cheaper than Cabelas, as well as Sportsmans.
