spanner for Savage barrel nut

hey guys, looking for a spanner for the Savage barrel nut that will work with a 1.250" straight pipe barrel contour. i have a standard Savage barrel nut wrench but it is too small diameter to fit over the 1.250 inch barrel. i have modified the standard barrel nut wrench by grinding down half of it to fit over the barrel. this works, but is not ideal and is still is very easy to scratch up the barrel sliding it over to the barrel nut. i assume there is some type of claw spanner that will work but not sure what size to get.

any help appreciated

I've used a spanner wrench before and it worked, I just ground the inside a bit to get a better bite. This was before I got a reg wrench I don't torque mine super heavy anyway never had any issues, spanner wrench will do in a pinch

mine was 7 inches long I don't know what size, it was in a junk box I bought from a sale 20 yrs ago

If you have an AR-15 buffer tube wrench , it'll usually fit . That's what I use on 1.25" barrels

I'm a bit confused. If your barrel is 1.250" straight the cosmetic tapered end of the jam nut will not screw all the way up to that as it's about 1.14".
Have you turned that section off the jam nut?

No you turn the barrel Down for a smooth fit.

Sure. I just wondered how he did it. I prefer to turn the contoured section of the jam nut off. But I do not object to seeing exposed barrel threads.
I want a jam nut that will accept a 'regular' spanner wrench. Six holes in the jam nut. Should allow switching of the barrel with the scope still mounted.

I have mine made to 1.310 so the nut is the same as the action .
I feel a standard. 1.250 barrel don't give enough metal for a proper shoulder .
