Whats the craziest thing you have ever heard some one about a gun?

They didn't tumble in flight, but did a 180 (tumble/yaw) once inside that human target

I am smart enough to know that then and now. I am only repeating what I heard with my own ears. But I wasn't about to stand up and tell the entire company the instructor giving the class didn't know what he was talking about. Had I done that, I would still be at MCRDSD in a Motivation Platoon.
And I don't think the 180 tumble/yaw thing is particular to an m-16 with a 55 gr bullet. I've cut a few rounds out of animals when skinning them and most all bullets seem to do what they want once inside a target.

I will relate this recent story. Last year a local young man bought a used 338 WM A Bolt from my store to use out west for elk. He purchased a Sig Sauer 4x12 scope from me as well. This kid weighs maybe a buck 30 soaking wet.
Sighting the rifle in was painful for him. He thought he shook the scope apart but one of my other customers helped him telling me he was flinching awful bad. Next he ordered a 20 moa rail from me, stating he will kill an elk at 1000 yards.
This kid is shooting factory Remington Core Loct ammo. I found the BC of that bullet, used jbm calculators to show him that the bullet would work out to 500. Explained what BC was, showed him what a handloaded Berger would do at the same velocity. Might as well been talking to a dead pine stump. This is what makes gun shop owners pretty jaded about customers tales, when you try and share what you know the average goober doesn't hear it.
Anything that kicks that bad should kill at 1000 right?

While living in Missouri and waiting on the dealer to come free, I watched two locals try to sell the shop a used muzzleloader. The shop turned them down and told them they should shoot it themselves as Missouri had a decent length ML season. I found the two of them on the reloading aisle trying to decide whether to use Blue Dot or 800 X powder.

I shoot rfbr at 50 yds. When the sun is just right sometimes you can watch the bullet into the target.
A fellow competitor told us once that he was watching the bullet head towards the X, when the bullet did a zag about a foot from the target & went into the 9 ring.

My hunting buddy once inadvertently tried to fire a 223 Rem round in his 22-250. We were seated on the ground next to each other, shooting at ground squirrels above us in a rocky box canyon. I heard a "tunk" and a "What the @%$#&!?" He had reached, without looking down, into what he thought was his ammo box, but got into mine instead.

Know a police firearms instructor that was giving an inservice class. As he was covering the safety portion of the class he shot a hole in the door. Bosses didn't think it was funny and he was dumped back inti a district the same day.

He couldn't manage minute of paper plate at 50 yards so of course we kind of lost interest somewhat. That is until we noticed he still has his ramrod stuffed down his barrel and torched one off. After he realised what he had done. He grabbed his crap and went to the pickup. Didn't say a word.

Plenty of opportunities with muzzle loading for stuff to happen, shooting the ramrod is pretty common but...
No powder is so common that several guys letter stamp the muzzle with "Black stuff first"...
Double charge is another look stupid and happens often...
Forgetting to remove the false muzzle on competition rifles will destroy a expensive barrel component...
Restoration of a original has gone bad for a few, such as deteriorated drum and nipple threads..
Seen plenty of wood rods break and stab guys deeply..
#1 has to be a loaded barrel that is supposed to be empty. They go to clean them and fire them off at home trying unclog!

Went into a newly opened (but short lived) gun store in my area several years ago and a customer was asking the counter man questions regarding a 50BMG round that was on the counter. The customer inquired as to what type powder would be use to load that round. With great authority the counter man stated that due to the size of the cartridge case the round would have to be loaded with an extremely fast powder to insure all the powder burned before the projectile left the barrel.

I left and never went back.
