Driving People Away from Shooting

Shooting refugees welcome!

Check out Kingman, AZ range and city. I moved here recently and love it.l

Sorry to hear such things. I second Arizona.

Jack

Made Arizona my home this past January. Long story short, the shooting community welcomed me with open arms. There are dozens of shooting opportunities across the state, Phoenix has one of the nicest ranges, (Ben Carson) in the country. If you're looking for a home where you can easily find a shooting community that embraces new members, Arizona is a nice place to call home.

I guess it happens everywhere. I witnessed the new management push out probably the most knowledgable service rifle coach/director I have ever met. The new guys wanted a different direction. At our local club a "hostile" takeover at the board was attempted, fell one seat short then the newly elected board members quit because they lacked the votes to push their agenda. Left the club a bit in disarray for a while with different disciplines bickering. Both examples were shear politics that in the end benifited no one.

don It,s clicks or cliques what ever way you spell it.
Petty nonsense. I too know very well what you had done to you.
Nmoe they have shown their true identity. Look up the work TURD second def

You are not alone. I moved from Chicago to Rockford five years ago. There is an indoor pistol club one mile from my house. Went there on one of there open to the public days. The range officer was a real as****e when one of their new members that was doing his work day asked him a question. The guy was yelling and throwing a tantrum. I haven't been there since.

Many of these people who run for club office are on a power-trip and probably no longer active in competition or shooting in general and need something to do.

Sorry to hear things like this. This is basically what keeps me from any form of organized shooting. Good luck in your search for a new "home".

Do not despair there are a lot of great people in the various shooting disciplines. They were all largely founded on the principal of having fun and advancing accuracy in different shooting scenarios. Get involved and have fun. Don't let negative attitudes and equipment deficiencies discourage you. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I would not paint every organized shooting event with the same brush. I have been competing for 20 years (a newcomer compared to most here). I spend most of my time at ranges where the matches are fun and low key. They do exist. Don't avoid organized shooting altogether, find the places that match your temperament and you will have a blast - every pun intended.
Don isn't letting his experience drive him from shooting. He will find a club where ever he lands that suits him and be back in the saddle.

I have some experience with this. Some organizations lose focus of the original intent and stray with other ideas and objectives. These groups are lost in their own political whirlpool and start making tons of rules and focus on keeping their positions and the masses under control. The guys that want to enjoy the sport run into this wall of power and get overwhelmed with the nonsense. You can read a few club news letters and tell what the club atmosphere is pretty quick. Look for positive talk and you are home!

The smaller the newsletter, the better.

Edit: Good point!
Walking away from controversy means you neither won nor lost, but it is a setback none the less. Regulating human behavior a waste if energy. But people like this only understand one of 2 things, or both. Loss of revenue, or loss of status, until these are disrupted, there will be no change.
There is power in numbers.

One of the more disappointing aspects of human nature. Happens every time you give a jerk a walkie-talkie.
