Nightforce Benchrest dim and disappointed

I had a Sightron SIII variable x32 power scope that I just replaced with a benchrest. I moved the Sightron to another rifle. I find the nightforce dull and dark compared to the Sightron. Is this the norm? I bought the nightforce based on their reputation. Or is this just me. I wish it was brighter and clearer. Older eyes appreciate brightness.

I just think the overall brightness, regardless of the magnification, the Sightron looks brighter and sharper. Really expected more for the 1400 bucks. It was my first day with it but I also have Competition and it looks a little better. I know these are THE SCOPES so I will give it a go next time to the range. Going to use my shooting hat with the side flaps.

You aren't alone, I can't see that big a difference either. If the conditions are right its a bit more noticeable but once the mirage is running, they are all the same to me for the most part. NXS, comp, BR, march, and s111's. I guess I'm lucky, I can save some money.
The only scopes that knocked my hair back are the expensive German ones although I've never looked through the high end vortex's.

Busheler for a newbie your all over like horse sh##!
And if your one of Obama"s buds I'm out of here.

I kinda noticed that too. Joined yesterday and has 159 posts that all seem skewed toward "hate & discontent". It's not nice to attack newbies but just who is this one?

Nakneker...You forgot #5..........the JAGOFF box. Check and double check. He may have an excuse though as I have it on good authority that when he was a youngster his mama propped him up in the corner and fed him with a slingshot. Gives one a dim view of humanity.

Were you comparing the Sightron set at 32x to the NF at 42x?

This is HUGE. You simply can not fairly compare variable scopes at different powers. Turn the NF to 32 and re-test. I am NOT saying that you are wrong.....not at all. BUT to make it a fair and useful test, use the same imputs....ie...magnification.

I don't own a Sightron, but I have checked them out on the 1000 yard line at many matches. They are great scopes. I simply wasn't sold on the inner workings, reliability, and repeatability of the SIII as they were new...but, then again that was a few years ago.

Good luck,
Tod

I am sure the scope is one of the best. I will on my next trip to the range set both up at equal power. (I really didn't check last week what they were set at) Like many of us now that I am over 60 I need the best optic I can afford. The one thing I forgot to check when I bought the BR was the elevation adjustment range. I believe I have a 20 moa Farrell base. The longest range around here is 500. I will see how this scope does at that range. The other thing I found is the shooter hat helps with the glare and brightness of the view.
Always learning.

Another thing is adjustments of focus and parallax. Sometimes you need to play with them a little. I prefer parallax free with a slightly hazy view, then crystal clear with parallax. Matt

I have never felt the 42x BR scope was dark. If it seems dark send it in, they are very good scopes. You have to compare scopes at the same mag settings.

Sightron is the more scope for the money invested than
any other brand. LDS
You got mad when they knocked Jewell triggers and here you are knocking all brands of scopes. Seeing the OP asked about Nightforce BR scopes you are bashing them. The Nightforce BR scopes has set more long range records and won more long range Aggregates then any scope. They are rock solid and one of the few scopes that will take a 50 cal beating and hold up. Matt
