How to bate Jack Rabbits

Incidentally, "busheler" means "A Tailor's assistant, for making repairs to garments." There you have it.

I, too, apologize to our OP for highjacking his thread. I lost my head a little.

Going back to the subject of this post: Must be the year of the Lepus. Lepus Americanus to be exact.
We used to shoot jack rabbit in the sage and on edge of crop fields. Back in the day, you had to be careful you didn't bump the top of the cab with the shotgun when shooting at them running in ahead of the vehicle in the dirt road....ughh, er, ummm, well I,...I heard this was the case. Took most of my rabbits back in the day with a single shot .22LR and in those days, that was my only gun and I was walking. 200 yards was not a long shot on those huge targets.

Now days, lights, vehicle, gun, game animal in same proximity could be no gun, no vehicle, and a fine. Depending on the state you are in. Find an area near Reno with sage and some gullies. Sit on a side hill and let them come to you. Fresh lettuce, apples, and similar is good, but they like young grass and new sage better. You would have to bait for a few weeks and get some coming in before the bait would do much good. Throw something out in the morning and expect them on it later in the day just wont work. If you live on the outskirts of town with some BLM near, just plant a garden and keep it watered. You will get all you can handle coming in to you. Petunias work good too. They like to eat the flowers.

I did like that PDF. It had some good info. It kind of makes me happy I always tip my steel backwards.
How far away do you shoot steel plate? Dicey if you're too close. I caught a shard on my forehead that drew blood from 30 paces, standing behind the shooter. So, technically, I'm a gunshot victim, not that I go around bragging.

It depends on what I am shooting. I have a 300-221 (300 blackout before it became a thing) with frangibe ammo close almost reach out distance. Handgun 5yds and out. Rifle usually never closer than 400 to 500yds.

I used to have the steel straight up and down. Never got hit with flack. It would dig small trenches in the ground. I did not like that so I started tipping them backwards. It is less than 45 degree back.
