How to bate Jack Rabbits

Here just outside Reno, the rabbits are like coyotes. They stay and live in congested areas . How can I bate them in the desert ?

Do you want to BAIT them in order to shoot them? Out side of Reno, you shouldn't have too much problem finding them with no bait. But, -- green alfalfa might do the trick. jd

I'm in Reno, too. I walk daily in the sage and rabbit brush just outside the suburban zone I live in. This year I'm seeing more cottontails and, especially, jackrabbits than I can ever recall. They may be especially concentrated where you can't shoot, but I think you'll find plenty out on the nearby BLM land.

The first four months of the year here were so wet, I waited for the mud to dry up rather than hunt. Then it suddenly got hot and dried up so fast, with so much cheatgrass, I've been reluctant to shoot and start a fire. And we've had plenty of fires started by shooters around here. Now you've got me wound up to go thin out those pesky "jackass rabbits" (as Mark Twain referred to them in Roughing It.) But it's just sooo damn dry out in the brush. Know of an alfalfa farmer who needs pest control?

My families in California, New Mexico and Wyoming and are claiming...Rabbits everywhere!!

"Bait" them with a light.

I bet it "works".
Washoe County - 50.162 Nighttime shooting and spotlight hunting prohibited.

Except as otherwise authorized by law, it is unlawful for any person to discharge a firearms of any kind between one-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise or shine a spotlight between on-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise for the purpose of hunting a wild animal in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Start stringng hay out to feed cows. Last winter at my sis's ranch i shot 50-60 on her hay strung out to feed her livestock

Have never lost a bet big enough,to be forced to reside in a locale with such foolish mandates.

I'd make a poor Sheep.
Different states, and possibly even counties have different laws concerning the use of lights for shooting. Here in Oregon, ours have to do with proximity to a motor vehicle. Unregulated animals such as coyote and rabbits are allowable to spotlight, but not from a vehicle.

If you are caught shining a lite on a game animal while sitting in a vehicle and in possession of a firearm, you will be in big trouble. Not sure of that makes a guy a "sheep". jd

"The genre of rabbit hunting"? Or are you grouping them together since Youngman was a concert pianist? I think you need a pointy head to tell them apart.

But Borge and Youngman were funny, don't you see? When the jokes fly over the audience, that's called "dying" in the business.

quoting a emoji? I don't have to try very hard. Good night.

Ironworker, Sorry to get in the way of your thread, in a moment of weakness I fell victim to the trolls
