Well, I pulled the trigger on a 6BR

Been trying for the longest time to decide what kind of barrel I wanted to put on a Remington 700 action I had so, I finally decided on the 6BR. Already have a .22, 22-250,.308, 6.5CM so it should fit into that group nicely and fill a gap.
My reasons for 6BR seemed to be swayed by cost of reload per charge of powder, inherent accuracy, access to Lapua brass, and many great 6mm bullet choices.
This will be my first Criterion barrel (I went remage) so, I hope its as dead accurate as my .308s Shilen.
I liked my Shilen bull so much I went with the same 28" bull but, 8 twist with a .092 FB
Now just need to order a follower to turn the blind mag into single shot. Thinking the ones EABCO sells.

Good choice, no doubt there. I would suggest, however, that you consider the 6 Dasher as well...:)
I sure wouldnt mind.
Im just excited to be doing this one for now.
I only wish there was a really known smith that has done some truing of action faces and lug lapping on 700s close by me. Getting that done asap then ordering the single shot insert come Monday.

Mine just has a Davidson glued in. Works fine but outside of the receiver is not nice and symmetrical. Given you can control your headspace with the nut, it would be no great trick for you to carefully lap your lugs in yourself. Unless the front of your receiver is way out of whack (and it sure could be), I'm not sure how much difference it will really make. I'm sure many will disagree. You'll love the 6BR.

Alex Wheeler comes immediately to mind.

He is, in Dillon, MT.

You are in Ohio, though, aren't you?

Yes, I am in SW Ohio just a bit south of Dayton.
I surely agree Alex would do a superb job. Wonder what the cost and turnaround time might be. If it wasnt to costly I would love to have him true it. Its a thought for sure.

So, the Davidson doesnt look good only looking at it pulled from stock looking at the underside?
Any idea how decent the one like I mentioned works that simply is inserted on top of existing follower? Does it stay in place ok?
Here is the two I was looking at.

I hear yeah on the how much difference it will make. It was a new Rem. 700 I picked up at Cabelas simply because they had it marked at $266.
Then I got my veteran discount so, it was a good buy for a donor action. Not sure if that matters but, worthy of mentioning as I heard with the tooling and cnc they use current things are pretty exacting, hmm maybe?

Sorry, Litlboy you even mentioned that in a PM to me and it totally slipped my mind. I appreciate that reminder to give him a call as well.

I have another Davidson that I use on a removable basis--it works great. Haven't used the EABCO or scorehi.

Good Luck! with your project.
Thanks its appreciated. I hope its a shooter for sure.

Don, Yes barrel will be shipped out tomorrow. Its what I was recommended so, from best I can tell a 1n8 outta suite me fine. Not even sure they have the 1n7.5 I suppose I could call. Either way I think I will be ok.

HTSmith, I dont see any comment or input just my quotes.

ive had all of these...and the only one i would purchase again would be the davidson glue in. the two you have listed just fit on top of the blind mag but the davidson actually gets glued to the action itself. i think i put mine on with some jbweld, but didn't do ANY surface finish on the follower or action and when i ended up putting that specific action in a chassis, a small tap knocked the guide out and i had no further clean up.

So, why did you not like the Eabco follower they sell other then being it sits on top of existing follower? Did it not stay secure? Did it not give enough ramp for the BR round to load smoothly?

i actually used them with a 223, 223AI, and another 223AI (same action, different barrel/chamber). I preferred the glue in just because it felt more secure to me....wasn't really a performance issue, i suppose, but just an opinion. I really wanted a single shot action but feel into a cheap BDL action and just used it.

Ok, got ya.
Appreciate the response.

Now on to figuring out what the best dies might be for this BR.
I am thinking a FL Forster sent in with a dummy round to hone.
I use the Lee collet NS dies for other rounds I shoot but, they dont make one for the BR?
Input welcome on this as the BR is all new to me.

I use the Lee collet die for my 6BR. just get a .025" shim from Mcmaster car the inner diameter of which goes around the case. it seats on top of the shell holder and the necks size fine.

I think remage is a good idea. The advantages of the barrel nut with a jewell trigger.

My prefit savage/shilen 6BR 26" bull shoots pretty good

have you looked at the ptg single shot follower? it is round on the bottom to match the action. I built the same basic rifle you are building and it has turn out to be a real shooter!!!
