So I decided to try and fix my Jewel trigger........

I have been having problems lately with my HVR trigger not resetting. I washed it out with lighter fluid multiple times, sprayed it out with an air hose, readjusted it per the instructions and thought I had it working to just have it quit after one shot on the line. I needed to wiggle the trigger shoe back and forth to get it to reset. No misfires, it just wouldn't cock without wiggling. So I decided to disassemble it and see if something broke.

Step 1: Tape the back of the 3 pins so they don't fall out


Step 2: Flip over to remove the clips and 4 screws.


Step 3: Remove the side panel to expose the insides.

Step 4: Play with it carefully to see how it works and if I was able to recreate the problem.


Step 5: I was able to recreate the problem.


I removed all the internal parts and stoned them off gently to remove any galling or burrs, reassembled, lubed and seems to be working fine. I will let you know when I can get out and finally shoot it.

Me too.

The instructions advise not to blow the trigger out after flushing with lighter fluid. They also advise against any type of lube.

I tried their method of cleaning and it didn't work. I bathed it in lighter fluid without blowing it off and it didn't work. Took it apart stoned it up, flushed it with lighter fluid and it didn't work. I put a very small amount of lube on the pivot points and it works fine.

What would be the downfall of what I did?

Sounds to me like you fixed it! When in doubt, lube it.

If by chance you still have the problem, try adjusting the overtravel stop screw to give a little more overtravel. They don't like to reset if there is not a little overtravel. Also if the weight is too light for the spring will cause the same problem. Light pull weights need the lightest spring for sure.

You don't use lube because it collects dust and other crud. Send it to Jewell they will fix it.

I shot the rifle on Sunday and tonight for a total of 40rds and the trigger worked perfectly. I probably should clarify on my lubrication of the trigger I used a .050 allen wrench dipped in a light oil and just transferred a very small cling amount to all the pivot points.

I've been told to use bbq lighter fluid and not Zippo lighter fluid. The bbq stuff has an oily feeling to it.

That makes sense. I used the Zippo lighter fluid and seriously considered using Kerosene instead because the Zippo fluid did not seem to leave any kind of lubricating residue. I am shooting a 2 day tournament this weekend so after that I will try the bbq fluid. Hard to do as I am a newspaper/charcoal kind of guy.

It was advice direct from Jewell. I'm more of a Hank Hill bbq kind of guy, but the big bottle of bbq lighter fluid is far cheaper and many times bigger than Zippo or ronsonol.

Not absolutely sure but I believe BBQ lighter fluid is naptha, refined from oil. Close to kerosene but a bit more ignitable. Maybe

Also use it to clean & neutralize my cleaning brushes, jags, rods, etc.. I put it in squeeze bottles, for the tasks. A gallon last me a long time (years). Oh... and by the way; I smoke... lol

Put another 75 rds downrange today in regional tournament. All is well and look forward to tomorrow. Shot a 197-3x at 1000 today. Personal best.

So What is the trigger to have and not have to do any work with it? Or do you have to buy a Jewel and send it to some one to have it tuned? And how much would that cost? So much for quality control!! I probably should have clarified that this trigger is 2 years old and has about 1500 rds on it. I have only had one other problem when I pierced a primer but a simple flush and blow cleared that up. This trigger has performed exactly as I have expected and I really thought I would find that a piece had broken inside. There was no visible galling or anything standing out. I just simply polished every thing up for my own peace of mind and off I went. To tell the truth if I was smart enough to think of charcoal fluid and not zippo lighter fluid I am fairly sure this could have been avoided. Live and learn

Shot another 75 rds today with no issues. Buy a Jewell with confidence.

You probably need a Timanchy trigger for your needs.
