Jewell Trigger Adjustment

I recently started having cocking problems (I think) with my Jewell HVR trigger. After I reassembled my rifle after bedding the action, the action didn't want to cock. I pulled the action back out of the stock and started from scratch following my Jewell manual. All seemed back in order. I readjusted my trigger pull back to 8 oz. as I have had it since I installed it. I get to the range today and while running a few dry fire exercises it started acting up again. I ended up holding my bolt stop in a neutral position where I could cycle the bolt farther. This seemed to fix it. For good measure I did this about 6 times then went back to normal operation. Shot 50 rounds total with no problems. Was this a fluke or need I be proactive with some type of adjustment. I'm nervous about it firing a round in the process of loading live ammo.

The first thing is take it apart and clean it. Does it do it with the barreled action out of the stock in a vice? If not, the bedding job is probably putting some stress on the action and needs to be re done or there is something in the trigger inlet touching/pushing on the trigger. If it wasn’t doing it before doing the bedding chances are cleaning it or re doing the bedding will fix the problem. Bedding really can change trigger geometry enough to cause problems.

I'll break it down tomorrow and look for foreign objects. I flushed the trigger pretty thoroughly with lighter fluid before putting it all back together.
Thanks for the response

While it’s apart lightly stone both sides of all the parts that touch the side plates to smooth them a little and make sure there’s no burrs. If you really want to go for it you can sand the inside of the side plate and make them flat. There’s some YouTube videos on it. All of that does seem to make them a bit better.

Well it appears it's time to grow a pair and open this Jewell trigger up and clean it right.
If I remember correctly the hanger pins(correct id?) were tight going through the Jewell trigger itself. I'm thinking a read on here to carefully open those holes to a couple of thousands over the pin diameter. Is this correct?
I'm still having occasional problems with it not cocking. I'm hoping a good cleaning will remedy that.
As usual....thanks for any help

If I can do it, you can. Yes the hanger pins were the hardest part. They go back in just fine. I sharpied an "F" on the front of the hanger on both sides. Tony Boyer in his book tells us that it's easy, so I did it. He also has a great diagram of the trigger in both the cocked and fired positions so if in doubt, you can always refer to it. I used 3000 grit sandpaper on all pieces. It was clean and dry before being put back together. If you do something similar, I believe you will be satisfied. I suggest opening the right side plate. You will see why once opened. Just be sure to not lose that spring on the backside of the actual trigger or any spring for that matter. Mine shoots like a new gun. First time out after trigger cleaning, the gun surprised me each time it went off. Not set too loose, just different than when dirty. I guess the lighter fluid flush helps some folks, but obviously you see the posts on here where folks ended up opening them and were happy that they did.
Regards, Kyle
