Brake for .308??

What brake do you recommend for a .308 rifle?? Preferably not a huge one like on a .50 cal... Brake is for a savage 10t that I am playing with and has shown superb accuracy. Now I would like to take a little kick out of it..

Thanks in advance...
Shawn

Thanks, I saw this while doing some looking.. Didn't know if it was trust worthy... If it is , it does have some good info..

Your accuracy will probably change for the worse with a brake deflecting gas onto the bullet going through it. You'll need extra hearing protection with brakes.

Add weight to the rifle to reduce recoil.

If the brake is installed correctly and the brakes inner diameter is correct for your caliber it should not degrade accuracy. Granted it might change barrel harmonics due to the added weight causing slight variation change in load developement but, to say using them degrades accuracy as a blanket statement just is not true.
Many times it can help your accuracy by reducing fealt recoil and helping you to stay on target better for better follow up shots (say three gun shooting).
Currently I am not running any brakes on my rifles either btw.

OP here is a article for you.

My choice would be the Lil Bastard Brake imho.

Since I don't have a threaded barrel I tried a Witt bolt- on brake. It reduced the recoil by at least half and the rifle doesn't bounce up shooting from a bipod. Accuracy seemed to get better, maybe because it tamed it down or maybe the added weight on the end of the barrel. The same brake is available fort a threaded barrel. http://wittmachine.net/

Good info there.... only caveats are don't buy a JEC Brake (do some research on customer experiences) and that the test doesn't include the Patriot Valley Arms Mad Scientist brake and the Area 419 Hellfire brake which are two newer options that also perform very well and are among the most popular these days.

I've got an APA Little Bastard, an Area 419 Hellfire, and a PVA Mad Scientist.

For your 308 I'd heartily recommend any of them... lean towards the PVA if you want less blast on the shooter (as well as a lower price) and lean towards the Area 419 if you want the option for integral suppressor mount and tool less swaps between brake and can.

"Probably" means most of the time; smallest fraction or more over half the time.

"Blanket" means all the time; covers all instances.

Well, according to Merriam Webster "Probably" is defined as:
  1. : insofar as seems reasonably true, factual, or to be expected : without much doubt is probably happy it will probably rain.
Accoring to Dictionary.com "Probably" is defined as:

1. : in all likelihood; very likely:

So, in my opinion you posted incorrect information stating it was "factual" that brakes will "without much doubt","very likely", "in all likelihood" negatively effect accuracy.

Like I stated I don't have any brakes on my bolt guns but, I know some lights out shooters who do that would not be running brakes if they negatively effected accuracy.

+1. I recently installed a Witt on a Savage 243 and absolutely could not be happier. No muzzle flip, even off a bipod on a concrete bench, and so far, have seen a measurable, small, but still yet, measurable shrinkage in group size.

A brake will make the sound louder to the shooter and anyone standing beside you. My .308 is loud enough with some rounds that it slightly rings my ears just enough to notice even when I have a set of ProEars 33 db muffs on. With the addition of a set of foam plugs, it's no problem. Still worth it. I even use a brake on an AR15 and they have almost no recoil. It does help staying on target.
