Your accuracy will probably change for the worse with a brake deflecting gas onto the bullet going through it. You'll need extra hearing protection with brakes.
Add weight to the rifle to reduce recoil.
"Probably" means most of the time; smallest fraction or more over half the time.to say using them degrades accuracy as a blanket statement just is not true
"Probably" means most of the time; smallest fraction or more over half the time.
"Blanket" means all the time; covers all instances.
+1. I recently installed a Witt on a Savage 243 and absolutely could not be happier. No muzzle flip, even off a bipod on a concrete bench, and so far, have seen a measurable, small, but still yet, measurable shrinkage in group size.Since I don't have a threaded barrel I tried a Witt bolt- on brake. It reduced the recoil by at least half and the rifle doesn't bounce up shooting from a bipod. Accuracy seemed to get better, maybe because it tamed it down or maybe the added weight on the end of the barrel. The same brake is available fort a threaded barrel. http://wittmachine.net/![]()
A brake will make the sound louder to the shooter and anyone standing beside you. My .308 is loud enough with some rounds that it slightly rings my ears just enough to notice even when I have a set of ProEars 33 db muffs on. With the addition of a set of foam plugs, it's no problem. Still worth it. I even use a brake on an AR15 and they have almost no recoil. It does help staying on target. What brake do you recommend for a .308 rifle?? Preferably not a huge one like on a .50 cal... Brake is for a savage 10t that I am playing with and has shown superb accuracy. Now I would like to take a little kick out of it..
Thanks in advance...

168 HPBT matchking and IMR 4064 with Fed gmm primers..What load are you shooting in the .308?
Have you tried 155s? They also reduce recoil.168 HPBT matchking and IMR 4064 with Fed gmm primers..
