6BRX H4350 and Berger VLD 95gr loads

Its been hard to find a load for this. Naturally I am doing testing and starting low but still I had to make my test rather wide. I started at 33gr and my hottest loads will be 36.5 unless of course They are to hot and then I will stop shooting my way up.

Has anyone else experimented with this combo?

I think I should also mention that I did do some load testing with this bullet and XBR. At 3040fps it was shooting really good but pressure was way to high. My mentor suggested I try something slower like H4350.

I think H4350 is too slow for this case. Unless you use a reply long droptube and have the gun throated out far, it is hard to get enough in. If you are crushing powder it can push the bullets out. What powder did you use before? Most use Varget or Re15. Matt

4350, to slow, especially with a 95 gr. bullet. As Duckhunt says, Varget or RL15 is the norm. I have quite a bit of experience with the 6BRX and have not been able to do better with anthing other than Varget. I shoot at 2980 with 106 gr EPS and have been another 100 ft per second higher but the 2980 has been a good place for me thru about a dozen different barrels. I sometimes get a little bored shooting the same load over and over but it works and it wins. My advice is don't try and reinvent the wheel.

With the 95 gr H4895 would well be worth a try too.

I have an 8 twist 6br and a 9 twist 6br. Tried for a long time to get the 95s to shoot in the 8 twist and it never worked out. They would shoot good, but not good enough to compete with or be comfortable with. I had a 9 twist barrel in the bin that I had chambered to 6br and the 95 Precision ballistics bullets HPBT 6/9 ogive bullets shoot great in it. Just my opinion, but I think the 95gr bullets regardless of manufacture are difficult to get competitive accuracy out of. Similarly to your results, I found XBR to be THE ticket to making them work. Also had pretty good looking groups with the new 4166. WD

2967 this was the only one that broke the group.
This was the best target. Groups getting smaller as i approached 37gr. Measured .25 at 200y

Ill do some more testing at 37gr and maybe even a little up. Going to have to make a longer drop tube. Right now i have an 11 in and i am going to make a 24in with small hole so it trickles slow. 37gr right now is just sseating the bullet into the powder. No crunch though.
I think the accuary node is right at about 3050fps.
Maybe i will try Varget. I am much biased to H4350 because it is almost twice as temp stable.

That's a lot of powder to get just over 3000fps. I can get 3050fps from a 6BR with 31.4gr Varget.

The 4350 powders are great powders for the 105 class bullets.

I think they might be a tad slow for the 95s though however if you get results, go for it.

IMR 4320 might be interesting behind a 95.

I've tried 4320 with the 95's also. And yes, it can produce very competitive groups on a given day. WD

H4350 has been a sucess. You need a long drop tube that is for sure and a longer freebore is a must in the .140 to .150 range and heavier bullets too are a must though the 95gr can work. My freebore is a short one so i am giving Varget a try. With the slower H4350 i think long barrel life will be posable too. With my freebore of .120 i can only get to 37gr and there i get a crunch or two. 36.5 shot very well. As was said earlier i dont think you can reach maximum presure with this powder. For those of you with longer barrels i think you will get a lot more muzzle velosity then i will as i am only shooting a 26in. There was only the littlest bit of muzzle flash at 37gr. That is unburned powder that would benefit from a longer barrel.
