Annealing advice

I would like some input on buying an annealer. I would like a quality machine without breaking the bank. Thanks for any and all help.

IMO, there is no better "annealing machine" or value than DJBS. How many pcs. of brass to you have to anneal to break even to cover the cost of the machine and propane? What is the value of your time? If your time doesn't count, would you be willing to anneal brass for me? To me, there are plenty of processes in reloading that have to be done to have consistant brass without spending the time annealing.

I end up with plenty of spare time. I travel for work and do all the tedious stuff while killing time in the hotel. But I have a couple really hard to find cartridges. The inflated price I've paid for what I've found would more then pay for the machine. If I can just get 3 extra loadings a case.

If your handy at building and making things. I don't think you could find a better induction annealer than the GinaErick. Cost to build is between $350-$400. It is fast and repeatable.
Because it is open source, you can make what ever changes to it you want to make it "yours" See what others have done in the attached thread
Take a look at the youtube video in the thread.

Although pricey, the AMP fits the bill. Carry it into the hotel room, plug it in and anneal away. The hotel might not be too happy about open flames in their rooms
In either case you might just set off a fire alarm burning off carbon in the cases.

The Annealeez was money well spent and it was affordable.
It anneals my cases perfectly every time.
Although I did make a modified torch head holder for it. More adjustment etc.

In my opinion, the AMP is the best annealer on the market with great support. I'm a EE and 40 years in IC production. Because of my background I started out designing my own annealer. It was too darn much work so I gave up.
But, if money is an issue, do what I did and buy an Annie. They are less than half the AMP and are ridiculously small and compact. The standard Litz wire coil/ferrite is the most compact but the water cooled coil is a better system at the cost of more space and less portability. I modified my Annie with a plastic base plate and a set of glass rods that fit in a hole in the base and when a case is dropped over the rod, it locates it so the neck-shoulder junction is mid coil (just like the AMP does inside beyond visual scrutiny). I have one rod cut and fire polished for each case I anneal. I also keep a bottle of Templilac to check periodically for correct temp profile. I also test a bunch of cases for correct anneal time. I start low and build up till I have the Templilac profile the way I want.

I also suggest you check out the Annie, it is repeatable and you can buy different coils depending on how you want to anneal.

You can use the Annie with it's coil and no other parts are needed, you can be annealing in a few minutes.

Here are couple links to building up a system around the Annie, and to building your own induction annealer.

Normmatzen ( post above) has come up with a very simple method of locating the case in the annealing coil
