6.5Creedmoor bullets

Running a RPR 6.5CM. Would like a bullet to serve two purposes: long range range shooting (to 1000 yards most of the time) and a good hunting bullet for whitetails with a max range of 500 to 600 yards where I hunt. Any suggestions? I really would prefer to stick in the 140 grain bullet weight. And I do reload a little bit, so factory or something I can load will both do.

Berger has Hunting VLD in 140g and Classic Hunting at 135g. They are a wee expensive but should get both jobs done.
I've read some mixed reviews on people having issues with having to load the bullets to long to fit in their mags so it'd hit the lands. Maybe it was just bad info though...I'm not an expert by any means when it comes to reloading.

I to have heard about that, however your mileage may vary across the board. Some magazines are longer/shorter than others. I would suggest measuring the longest OAL that will fit in the rifle you plan on using and compare it to what the "standard data" says. Generally my rounds end up longer than published data but not always, again it is a case by case scenario in my experience.

Could give them a try. Tried the eld-m and my rifle didn't like them for some reason.

What kind of OCW and seating depth test have you run. Long range ladder test for charge and seating would be best in my opinion. Of course one at a time in whatever order you prefer

I too reccomend the berger hybrid hunting

Berger hunting vld is a great one but you must run the berger seating depth test with them. Seating depth is critical.

I'll give the Bergers a shot. The ELDM that my rifle didn't like was factory ammo not handloads.

If you have the means to handload i would give that the ELDX a try for target/hunting and ELDM for just target. My match rifle does terrible with the the factory loaded ELDM rounds but I get less than 1/2 MOA when I roll my own.

I got some 147 Eld-m from Miidway awhile back. I loaded them to 2.848 in my .260 and they shot incredibly well. We shot them to 550 yards and were totally impressed with them. I have shot the 143 grain eld-x and they were also great. My goto for my hunting load will still be the 129 Interlock, however, I am going to try the 147s that I have left on some deer depredation work here shortly (I hope)..

Keep me posted on that if you do try em out on deer I'd love to know how you made out with them.

My barrel being a 1 in 8.5" twist, I went with the 130 gr Berger vld target first then hunting ones, they shoot as well, they are just a bit expensive to shoot compared to the hornady here in New Zealand . I use them in f class at 1000 yards with no problem. I haven't shot a large critter with them yet. ( the rifle is a bit of an anvil to lug around) But a few varmint got dropped with them :)
I will try the hornady 130 eld next as they have just arrived in the country.

140vld hunter bergers work great for me and im jumping 0.080. loaded test found what shot best loading max mag length, then started with that load and started shortening length by 0.010 till i found magic number, groups string hor, cant rember exactly but plus 1/2 moa to under 3/8 moa so deepth is important but, they will jump. Load is 260ai

Hornady ELD X, great bullet. They'll do what you need done.
I'll second that. I was very impressed with the accuracy of the heavy ELD-X out of my .260 AI. I have not yet tried this bullet on game, but I will this year.
