Michigan groundhog hunting

Got home early from out-of-state working had a chance to go groundhog hunting last night for a couple hours took an old army buddy with me that has never been before and by the grin on his face I think he's hooked
Trusty Rusty strikes again at about 200 yards this Bruiser was actually living under the concrete in the pole Barn he had to go

20170519_150537.jpg 586.jpeg the second picture was a complete surprise at the end of the evening we went to retrieve our kills and instead of the carcass found this can't believe he crawled off with that much damage he was laying down looking at me crosshairs were dead on his head at the instant the shot broke he stood up I think I got a bad gut shot

No, I'd say that was a pretty good gut shot....as gut shots go!!!!! Looks like about two and a half pounds of jellyfied guts to me......

Looks to me like you missed, but you sure scared the stuff out of him.

Looking at the ground/vegetation the hog was moved for the picture
And then he crawled off! I don't think so. The different soil and different vegetation is what made me ask the question. Also if he crawled off from that blood pile there would have been a trail. Something sounds fishy here to me. dedogs

I'm thinking a hawk swooped down and hauled him off. Pretty tough hog to crawl away with that much of his innards on the ground.

Last week I got one on my way out hunting... about 400 yds out... hour or so later on my way home I saw something out in the field agian... damn yote eating the chucky... made him lay for a (nap) with the chucky

617.jpeg I called my buddy he had some other photos on his phone and send them to me here you can clearly see the Splat pile on the bottom right and blood center617.jpeg the next picture is the hole if you zoom in close you can see traces of blood in the dirt . The holes approximately 2 feet behind the last blood spot on the ditch Bank same field opposite side of the one that i shot by the barn in the picture with my rifle
Just wanted to give a little bit more information almost felt like I was in court 615.jpeg

almost felt like I was in court
misfire, My apologies. It does in fact look like he crawled off. Must have been a tough little bastard. If you can manage it, a head shot anchors them 99.9% of the time. dedogs P. S. It was not clear to me that you were talking about 2 different woodchucks.

Had a grate day introducing my son in law to hunting groundhogs. Weather was perfect 70 sunny and no wind. Soybeans are coming up and the hay has been cut little piggies are out in force.20170528_102219.jpg 20170528_102230.jpg2 pics of the same water balloon had to strech him out to see how the 55gr nosler ballistic tips performed. The next few were taken with 50 grain Federal varmint tipped ammo 20170527_162036.jpg 20170527_162233.jpg 20170527_164146.jpg as you can see we had one make it back to the hole but I don't think he'll be coming back out.
