US Optics

I am at a delema trying to decide on either a US Optics SN-3 or the Nightforce NSX for use on my 6.5x284. Has anyone had experience with the US Optics. Your opinions are valued

ThanX in advance

I dont have one but I have several NF scopes. Ive used mine for some 1000yd F class shoots and love the scope. Ck out snipershide.com those guys are the best when it comes to that type of optic. For the money you cant go wrong w/NF. Great optics w/huge adj range.

I own three USO scopes. They are excellent scopes and tough as nails. I have had nothing but exceptional service from John and the gang. One thing to keep in mind is that they are heavier than the Nightforce scopes. They are built to order so you can get anything you want built into it -- ie. first or second focal plane, lighted reticle,in multiple colors), dozens of reticle designs,MOA, Milrad, BDC), and you can get the click adjustments in any setup you want,0.1 Milrad - 1/4, 1/2, or 1.0 MOA, etc). Give John III or Wendel a call and they will get you exactly what you need.

I had a wonderful chance to test a USO SN3 for six months on my hard use rifle last year. It was privately owned, and the fellow wanted to see how I thought it performed as a SWAT scope.

I put the thing through some pretty brutal use, including an unexpected fall onto rocks. Me, the rifle and the scope took a hard fall. I ended up taking a month off work to heal up, but the scope and rifle came through just fine. The rifle/scope zero didn't even budge after clattering to the rocks six feet below...

Used the scope on SWAT training, actual callouts, in matches and hunting. The rifle was used in dry heat, pouring rain and driven snow. It performed superbly. Expensive? Yes. Heavy? Yes. Worth it? Only you can tell for sure, but if you've got the cash, it's hard to imagine a better hard-use scope.

The glass was excellent. The adjustments were 100% reliable and repeatable. The unit I tested had the illuminated reticle, which proved very useful in my line of work.

Regards, Guy

I own 4 SN3's. Use them for tactucal, BR and Fclass. Got a slimline with the new MD reticle. Worked great at Sac Valley in Fclass. Gonna go with that one at the Fclass Nationals. I like to know where my holdoff is exactly and the fine 1 moa tick lines make it pretty easy. Their slimline version is very close in weight to an NXS. Think I'm going to have them build me another one with a fine crosshair for my 6.5 and 6mmx47 Lapua switch barrel.:D

I want everyone to know that I truly appreciate your input. I will call them and discuss what I have in mind and see what they come up with. The recticle and repeatability shot after shot, adjustment after adjustment are important to me.

Take Care

Fairly new shooter observations of USO SN-3: I like the way the GAP ret is set up. Kind of like what Premier did back in the day with the Leupy, with a few more neat features. Glass is super, as would be expected with all high end optics such as Nforce, Schmidt&Bender, Hendsoldt. Big and beefy, but i'm not willing to drop test this baby on purpose, but would back up what M700 said. EREK knob in .25 works for me for what I do, but get what ya want/like/get best use of. More MOA adjustment than the cartridge is capable of. Fairly smooth adjustments for elevation and windage, but absolutely repeatable every time, that was a huge sell for me) I can't get to 1k w/a single turn on the EREK, but I don't need too. Twist and hold to 1k you ask?...yep, sure, no sweat with the GAP ret; can Hold Only and get 1k,if I did my math right...but i'm not that good yet, someone better could verify i'm sure)). Summmation: Tank tough, user friendly, clear, dead nuts repeatable optic with a price to match. What more could a guy ask for!!{My shooting experience has been limited to a train up from Vern Harrison @ CVT, and some informal personal practice at Quantico. Less than 1yr in the long range game, but loving every minute.} Maybe this helps ya, maybe not.

I have a 3.5 X 17 with the Erect knob, honey comb extension, illuminated, and all the extras including mounting rings. I love it, Paid over 3k with all the extras. I had to sell my Savage 110 BA and now I'm' having to sell my scope that I waited 6 month to get. But it needs to go buy buy. I have moved on to other hobbies. I love US optics. They are built like a tank. They are so tough. I have used different scopes the past including NF, but I would trade any of them for the US optics. Probably going to ask 2.2K nothing less. They don't loose value. This scope was used on and off for a year. It's new and clean. I hat loosing money like this. Any one know any one, let me know. (541)912 12 zero five

I have a US optics scope for sale. I paid over 3K for the whole package. it's the 3.5 X 17. It has the erek knob, the honey comb front extension, illuminated, Scope mounts, etc.... I ordered it a couple years ago. used it for one season. Had to sell my Savage 110 BA and now my scope. I waited 6 months to get it when I ordered it. I hate to sell it, but I'm moving on to other things. It still looks brand new. hoping to pull 2.3K out of it. beats paying $2.7 for a stripped down model new. Hopefully it can find a new Home. They are built like a tank. I loved it. I don't really want to get rid of it, but getting pressure from wife. (541)912-12 zero five. Pass the word around. thanks

Own a USO 5-25 and two(3.5-15 and 5.5-22) NXS's. I love them all. Obviously the NXS are SFP and the USO is a FFP but I shoot both. The glass IMO is the same... I can not tell a difference.
Good luck to you.
