17 Cal

I have several 17 Cal rimfires and am struggling to find the correct combo cleaning patch/rod/jag .

Any suggestions ?

Dewey rod Jim is what i use they come with the jag the threads are smaller than the 20 cals and up. For patches i just cut the ones i have down.

I use a Bore Tech .17 cal rod and cut my own patches. I use this set-up with a .17HMR and a .17 Hornet.

I've had success with both the Bore Tech and Tipton rods. I've also switched to the triangle patch from Rigel Products... trianglepatch.com

I used to cut my 17 cal. patches as well until I found these. Works very well on several 17 cal. jags that I use in various centerfire and rimfire 17s I shoot.

I also like the Dewey for 17 cal. The tiptons don't hold up and the flimsy rods can reek havoc on microgrooves.

I have switched to all carbon fiber rods. if I can avoid it I'll never put another metal rod down my Barrel again.. I don't care if it's coated or not . coating wears off

I agree on preferring the carbon fiber rods. Never experienced the problems that member, Prose, mentioned above in his post with the Tiptons. I've been using them for nearly 6 years with zero issues from calibers in 17 to 30.
