6.5x47 Lapua brass flash hole reaming

Is it worth it to ream(deburr) Lapua's small flash hole? I know the factory flash hole is .059" and the Sinclair reamer is .0625". I don't want to open them up to much but I'm sure there is some variance between flash holes like they are. I can tell my decapping pin is tighter in some than others. I would like to make them all uniform but I'm not sure it would be beneficial. What's the general consensus?

Thanks
Dave

That's what I was afraid of. Seems the deburring tools I have seen enlarge the hole a few thou while deburring. How about the 21st Century deburring tool? Will it deburr without enlarging the flash hole?

I use the K&M flash hole tool on Dasher brass. It doesn't hurt anything and can be eye opening to see how much does or doesn't get cut from one piece to the next.

Noooooooooooo!!!!!
Whatever you do, DO NOT enlarge the hole. Lapua drill their flash holes and deburr in the process.
I made this mistake myself with 300WM brass in both Lapua and Norma, that extra few thou made a huge difference to my tuned loads, accuracy went south after doing it, and worst of all, it was absloutely NOT necessary to even touch them. I just went with what everyone else was doing. Luckily it was only 20 of each, cause I wanted to test results before doing a full 80 round batch for my matches.
Luckily, I have 300 Lapua pieces in 300WM that are still un-fired, and 80 that I still use for comp that have been loaded in excess of 20 times and are still going strong.

Cheers.

+1

I emailed John @ 21st Century. I found out his deburring tool does NOT enlarge the flash hole(.058"dia tip). This is exactly what I'm looking for. so far, I've been thoroughly impressed with all of the 21st Century tools I've purchased. I have their Hydro seater, neck turning lathe, priming tool, concentricity gauge and long funnels. Their quality is second to none. Guess I'll add the deburring tool to the list.

Thanks for the reply's

Lapua "gold box" 6BR brass is punched, not drilled. This was discussed many years ago on this forum. I can't say if the "newer blue box" is the same.

I De-burr (not re-drill) all my Lapua, Norma, and Winchester brass, and am lucky enough to be a Silver rated IBS 1000 yd shooter.

Correction, Lapua now stamps their flash holes. Both Gold and Blue box. Drilling was just an experiment they tried out and found it did not work.

To the OP.
Dont open up the flash holes. Keep them the same size. I have found no burs in my 6.5x47s anyway.

I don't have any plans to open the flash holes at all. That's why I was looking for a deburring tool that was just for inside deburring that would not affect the id of the hole. I had heard of some flash left around the hole inside the cases from time to time. I know there has to be some truth to this because my decapping pin will fit easily through most holes but once in a while it feels like one is grabbing as it pushes through. John from 21st century told me his deburring tool will not enlarge the flash hole. I just want to deburr/chamfer the edge of the hole inside the case.
