problems with 6.5x47 flash hole deburring

hi everyone!
i purchased a sinclair inside flash hole deburring tool,DB-1000) and have a few questions about using what i thought would be a very simple tool!
firstly the 6.5x47 uses a small rifle primer and the smaller section of the cutter seems to be quite a lot larger than the actual flash hole. i wasn't intending on enlarging the hole to that extent is this normal on lapua cases?

secondly the instructions basically say the tool will bottom out before the internal chamfer becomes too deep. in my tool the tapered cutter section,of what looks like a pilot drill, protrudes roughly .050" from the end of the shaft that holds the cutter. therefore if i run it until it bottoms on the shoulder ill end up with a chamfer .050" deep. now is that normal?
i feel the cutter is probably too large for the flash hole and at very least i should use the guide as a depth stop?

You need a cutter for the Lapua case and it's smaller than normal flash hole...
The correct tool will work just fine.......

so i need a sinclair flash hole reamer 07-3000 or similar? wont that tool just increase the size of the burr in the inside that i was originaly intending to remove?

AusFclass, leave the flash holes alone. Trust me, it will not hurt your accuracy by leaving them alone.

6BR,

Unfortunately all the 6,5x47L brass I have bought has a small burr inside the case that must be removed or the decapping pin will not pass through or will get stuck. I think this is why he is looking for a deburring tool.

In that case, disregard my comments, I had no idea. That's strange with Lapua brass. Is this happening to all 6.5x47 Lapua brass?

We've been over this many times.

Go to Daily Bulletin and search "Flash Holes".

Easiest thing to do is punch out the little sliver in the 6.5x47 brass with a pin vise with #53 BIT

See, READ: http://accurateshooter.wordpress.com/2007/03/30/brppc-flash-hole-deburring-tips/

Pin Vise — A simple $7.00 pin vise with a #53 bit is perfect for deburring Lapua PPC and BR flash holes without reaming the flash-holes any larger. The Lapua PPC/BR flash-hole diameter is 1.5 mm, or 0.59″. The #53 pin vise bit measures .0595″ while a 19/32 is .059375″. You can find pin vises and bits at hobby stores.

The pin vise works pretty well. Sinclair sells a tool part #07-3000 that is terrific for flash hole burrs in Lapua brass.

I like the K&M tools. There are different tools for the large and small flash holes and both come with a guide that centers the tool in the case mouth and a stop on the cutter that keeps the cutter from going too deep. You can call him directly at 717-292-3175 and he will sent the tool right our if it is in stock. I have tried some of the other tools and like these best.

i ended up searching the shed and came up with a drill style tip cleaner that i use for cleaning different side flame cutting tips. they come in a set and have little plastic handles molded on to each drill bit but the pin vice would be better to use i think. anyway i found one that was .0595 and it removed the burrs well although i think one around .060 to .0605 would have been perfect. just for the record i measured the tip of the sinclair inside flash hole deburring tool and it came up at .077. thanks again!
