Hog Recon

The 13" of snow is just about gone and next week we just might get some weather in the 60's

It's time to do some ghog recon to gear up for the 2017 campaign. Need 16 hogs in 2017 to reach the 1,600 mark.

Rough year in 2016 - too many misses - old man syndrome - :( - dimishing skills :( - but I still love being in the field :) - maybe I'll convert to a ghog watcher, like a bird watcher, less frustrating :p - trade all my varmint rifle for a camera  -

my wife is the same way.she does see me shooting them and I tell her that they are hard on the farmers equipment .

Saw my first live one this year while driving to Costco the with the wife. She saw it first and I was impressed! My infatuation with killing them is not appreciated by her. :(
If you won't damage a crop or can find a hole elsewhere, drive over a nice deep one, quickly. Make sure both tires hit the hole and her head hits the ceiling. A cup of soda or other liquid in the cup holder splashing all over helps the demonstration too. A couple of those and she may understand why they are a safety hazard to farmers and their equipment. Having said that, my wife gets ticked if I don't take her on the evening patrol. She's an excellent spotter and confirms the kills.:D

My wife was raised in a non hunting, no gun family. She's Philly girl.

When we were first dating I took her hiking in a fairly remote area. I was carrying a S&W Model 36, 38 pistol (with a carry permit). It kind of blew her mind but she must have gotten use to it because she married me. :)

She tolerates my hunting and has never nags me about it. I even got her eating deer meat but she won't eat ghogs legs. In fact I'm no longer permitted to store them in her freezer. :(

But I have a good wife. She watches for sales at Cabela's and bought me a Weatherby Supervarmint Master 223 Rem for an anniversay gift years ago.

We had some bad storms down here yesterday. Between them, around 630 pm, the sun tried to lighten the sky and there they were. Saw 3 nice one going home.

Had a good customer when I had a gun store way back that was a ground hog addict. He grew up hunting them in West Virginia and got hooked. He would travel back to hunt there as often as he could. He had a ready market for them at the local BBQ joint in that area. I guess with enough smoke and sauce and blended with bona fide pork....
