Magazine feeding 6 Dasher

So if it's possible,

A guy could get a AICS mag conversion for a ReM 700, buy the this kit and have it feed BR cases reliably??

Has anyone used it for a 22 BR??

I have 2 22BRs, both REM 700s. I use CDI bottom metal and have modified both the plastic AI 223 mag and the standard 308 mags. For best results be sure to set up your bottom metal to hold the mags as high as possible. Adjust the plunger type ejector so it's at least flush with the bolt face. It can be done.

I don't shoot competition, this is just a different approach on short fat cartridges. I have a Dasher, 6BR and a 22BR, all built on Sako 75s with 22-250 mags. They all feed and eject without issue. Work the bolt fast and hard or slow and easy, no problems. Dasher is built for Norma brass, still no ejection problems. These are used as varmint rifles and all shoot half MOA or better. If the OP is interested I can send him a video of any of them feeding and ejecting.

I had this same question a year ago and talked to George Gardner at GA Precision. He built me a rifle and I just got it back. Defiance Templar VII action with Badger M5 bottom metal. It feeds flawlessly out of AI magazine with the primal rights magazine mod kit. Not a single problem in 150 rounds so far.

I have a feeling this is going to be my favorite rifle by far! Just crazy accurate with no loadwork yet.

If your not totally set on the Dasher consider a BRX. It gets the exact same performance and the 30d shoulder will feed and extract more reliably with conversion kits then the 40d Dasher will. Just a thought.

Great thread enjoy the comments; I have a Dasher on Tac 30 action in a5 with Remington BDL bottom metal and absolutely no luck feeding….any suggestions to help? I guess changing to mag system of some sort. Thanks Greg.

Somewhere on here there was an article made some years ago where a military case was improved with a 40d shoulder. The conclusion of the test was that extraction and feeding was not as reliable. Sorry I cant find it right now. Still at work.
Explain how you derive this conception and its extent of gain.
Thanks... Donovan

I'm guessing making my BDL bottom metal work must be out of the question? No takers? surely someone has tried it/
Mike Bryant in Texas might Be able to help. He's modified lots of BDL bottom metal to feed 6BR. His number is in the gunsmithing section.

Shot with 4 rifles last week 2 Savage, 2 Defiance. 2 were fire forming Br brass to Dasher and 2 were shooting Dasher already fire formed. All had the Primal Rights mag followers added. No feeding issues from AI or Accurate mags. 1 Savage did have to be cycled slower but the Defiance ran like butter.

Hey Greg,

I have done it several times. Not an easy thing to get 100% reliable feeding. I use a spacer behind the follower and a shortened follower. Sako or M16 extractor will help tremendously on ejection of fired case. I can post some pics of modded parts if you like.;)

I'm going to chime in again......

I decided for the heck of it to put my Dasher in a Magpul 700 Hunter stock for a
"Tactical/Practical" type rifle.

Used the bottoms metal from magpul along with their AICS mag and it feed flawlessly with no mods to the mag.

I agree.... our magpul mags worked great with no mod but I decided to put a floating teflon spacer in the back.... even better and easzy peazy! Have done 4 now ... about a 10-15 minute modification.

Al, are you using Wyatt boxes and 223 followers in those Remington Rifles?
Nope, just regular BDL mag boxes with machined followers. Typically loaded the ammo in the middle of the magazine. Never saw the need for a rear spacer, as the rounds didn't seem to move from recoil. Also, polishing all the sharp edges of the feed rails helps feeding a bunch as well.

I've since sold my calling Dashers and went with my "ultimate coyote whacker" in a 6x47 Lapua, Bat, NF, etc, due to the VR action not being Dasher friendly.
