R. Findley on barrel?

I picked up a M1917/P-17 that had a new barrel in 30-06 on it. The barrel is marked "R. Findley 30-06" and about all I've found is a sentence mentioning him being an El Paso gunsmith. I'm assuming the barrel is something from a barrel mfg and set up by Robert Findley. Seems to have been very well done.

This looks like something that may have been done in the 70's maybe? Just guessing by the style of the rifle. I think it was a project that may have been about 95% completed and doesn't appear to have ever been used.

My first post here, just trying to find some info on the gunsmith that put his name on the barrel.

Thanks, that's more than I knew before! The work on the barrel looks top notch. Got the gun for $225 which seemed fair to me. I really wanted a nice long range cast bullet shooter. This might just fit the bill for me. Still needs a a few little things but could be shot as is. Looks to be a 1:11 twist barrel from just testing with a cleaning rod. I don't think it's 1:10 any more. Still like to learn more about Mr. Findley too..

After more careful measure, it's a 1:12 barrel..
