Ptg 700 action sale

I had a hard time buying these too as I swore off 700s and said many time I would never buy another. Only custom actions for me for now on! A custom will hold value better and make me smile when I use it, why would I want that 700 when I can have a nice gun. But I am thinking why would I give a full custom to my Kids when they have no idea what it is. They need to start with something so they know what's nice when they get it. And I can buy 2 or 3 of these for the price of a custom.

Not that there is anything wrong with a 700 but. Not for me. I want something that Make me smile every time I look at it or touch it.

I think they are good for the price. They fit better than my other blueprinted action because the bolts are tighter and close smoother. Everyone has to start some where and some day they may grow up and want a nice custom action.

Ok thanks i didnt see that. Seems like a awful waste to run a tap. When they ream the raceway. I wonder if its all handtools they use for the process. then it makes sense
I wonder that to. I figure for about the same money as a std 700 with a Ptg bolt it's a good deal. I wouldn't have paid 600 for one.

I apologize for not knowing as much about a custom action as the rest of the collective group probably does.

What other machine work would an individual consider having done to this action at the time the barrel is being installed to make it into a fully custom rifle.

Mine is going to become a 308 hunting and informal target rifle. I have pretty easy access to about 400 yards and I'm sure I'll put some targets up and learn how to shoot at those distances.

If I like it, I can probably back up even farther.

Thanks.

I would have a soild smith look at it and see what the cost vs reward. But if its a hunting rifle then brass, barrel and bullets is where i would put my effort.

Benchrest guys need the super slick rigs so the rifle doesnt move in the bags of the front rest. Plus shooting 5-10 rounds in like 2 seconds action needs to move real quick and sit still.

"Plus shooting 5-10 rounds in like 2 seconds action needs to move real quick and sit still."

You really need to go to a real benchrest match and see how the real benchrest shooters shoot.

Sorry my sarcasm doesnt really translate thru post. I always forget that. I have seen a couple before. I never got into it.

Last couple of 700s I bought each had multiple problems, however they all shot reasonably well with handloads. How hard is it to shoot minute of deer anyhow? With a properly installed and chambered good barrel, a 700 will shoot a lot better.

That said, when building a custom or competition rifle I would never start with a factory action as there are simply too many custom actions available for reasonable money. There is no assurance that a blueprinted 700 action would end up where a custom action starts. And yes, I've built a few competition rifles.

Anybody received one of these items and are currently using it? My receiver is supposed to be here this week and I'm curious how they are shooting?

Thanks.

Name 1 what? I understand going in upfront that it ain't close to a custom. It should be a great value for a hunting rifle If I ever get mine.

Dave, I believe my card was charged May 4 for one of the receivers. Do you have an ETA?

Hey Butch, I am glad your getting your hands on one . Its been Blued and shipping today . Your Order has been finished for a while and just waiting on our New Bluing Tank . Let me know how it works . One of my friends at Kelbly's informed me that two of our Blueprinted $380.00 Actions were parts of the builds of rifles that had Won individual Championships with one Breaking a World Record for one of the Canadian competitors . You told me once that a Remington Actions could not only Win but hold its own if it was Trued and the rest of the rifle was precisely put together correctly and then put in the hands of a competent shooter . well anyway the crew is about to call you and get some info from you and give it to the UPS driver . Please let me know how it shoots . thanks Dave
