Wood working ideas for shooting

I've recently got into wood working and I'm trying to think of clever projects for shooting. I've done several case holders and have tried making a 20 round ammo holder for ground hog hunting but can't come up with a good design. Any input or ideas of stuff to make. Thanks!
 
If you are really GOOD at woodworking, advertise to fit and bed wood laminate stocks. They are time consuming, attention to detail must be flawless and there are not enough riflesmiths that work with them. This means TIME is at a premium! If you did excellent stock work, that would keep you busy and you could make some good $$$s..
 
Gun box for bed of truck!! Several of us got together years ago and we all built boxes 24"W X 72"L X 13"H with roll out drawers so they would fit side by side for traveling to matches. Sure is nice having a lockup box for your good stuff so you can leave the tailgate down to access other gear.

Build flip top hinged 50 round boxes for short cases like the 221, 22 hornet, 22 and 6 PPC. Most of the cheap MTM boxes let the fired cases bounce about and fall out into the lid when it is closed.
 
Dunlop wood products has fine wood for all these new hobbies! I'll give you the phone number if you can't find it.

So are you wanting to sell stuff or just use it for yourself. I make die holders. Just a flat piece of wood with holes big enough for dies. Very handy on bench. I also made a stand to hold primer tubes, primer trays and priming tools. Also made a stand to hold locknuts. I need one to hold shell holders but may make that out of metal.
 
A heavier rifle cradle for cleaning & maintenance? Depending on where you're at with the woodworking, you could add a couple small drawers to the base for brushes, jags, patches, ect. This is one of the things on my personal to-do list.

I've thought about that, the drawers could be tough though. I might make them a simple dado cut? @joshb I'm not up to that level yet lol but since your close I might take you up after I graduate
 
I too mess around with wood some and here is a few things I have done:

1. A nice box that fits and protects your Sinclair {or other brand} benchrest. Mine has a carry handle and locks the rest in place so it cant come out.

2. Another nice wooden box to transport/protect the rear bag.

3. A nice custom roll around table with a rifle cleaning vise to hold your cleaning supplys and rods.

4. The rifle cleaning vise to go on the roll away table.

5. Custom fitted wooden cradles to hold your guns. Fancy for display, plain jane for the ones waiting in line to clean or have work done.

6. Nice gunracks to hang on the wall for display. These can be as simple or as fancy as you want...rough cut live edge 30 degree slab with hooks all the way up to a shallow velvet lined box with dovetailed corners and a glass lid that hangs on the wall and sets horizontal.

7. Cant take credit for this one, but as above, I am liking the die holders idea!!!

8. Book shelf to hang near your reloading bench for manuals, et al.

These should keep you busy for a while.

Im always building stuff like roll around carts for my shop and various tables. These are more on the level of 2x4 work. I started buying 3" screws by the 25# tub:) I have this older wooden rifle vise that i use alot and should build another. I like the idea of a wood tool box with a rifle cradle and all your cleaning stuff. It would close up and you could take to the range ect. I seen some guys have built. Thanks for reminding me about the rest box. This should be on top of the list. I want to make one nice and strong prob out of 3/4" plywood. Mabie room for my bags but an old man like me might not be able to carry it so well see:( This weekend Im gonna check my wood inventory and mabie start that. Im thinking of building a dustproof wooden box to hold my rifles horizontally in my truck so I can just remove them when I get out. No more fiddling with cases. I got lots of shelves in my shop i built cause I like to be able to see everything when it is stored. Dont like cabinets with doors. Chainsaws are a POA to store with the bar sticking out so I built a tray over the entry door to hold mine. Wasted space anyway and now the saw is out of the way. Just because I had two radial arm saws and a miter saw I built an 8' long cabinet and I have them all set up on it in a row with the fences and table tops all lined up so I can put a long piece of wood on there and it will be cut square when pushed back against all the fences. With my cheap Craftsman radial saw and freud blade I can cut a sliver of wood so thin you can see light through it. It never ends but I enjoy it and feel fortunate I have the shop now which I didnt for many years.

I forgot one...the one I just got done with. A rack to hold all your Tee-handle Allen wrenches and drivers. I made mine sized so that I could also include a set of Tee-handle Torx too. Yes, a lot of the stuff I mentioned could just be 2X4 construction...but it can also be a nice piece of oak or hickory too. If weight is a concern you can use a wood called Paulownia...it is just about as light as balsa but it's very strong. It is a little expensive if you have to buy it, but around here it grows like a weed.
Here is a few pieces of wild cherry. I had to cut this tree down just over a year ago....don't know what to do with this stuff yet, but it was too nice a tree to use for firewood.....
