Scope running out of adjustment

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but here it goes.

Shooting a rem 700 with a 20moa badger ordnance base, nightforce med rings and a nightforce benchrest scope. I have the vertical adjustment bottomed out, and am 3.5 inches high at 100 yards. if i switch to high rings, will that give me the 3.5 inches at 100 yards i am looking for? what about moving the scope forward or backward on the base?

Thanks.

Coin,

Sorry, but no and no. Question for you. Do you have a lot of windage cranked into the scope? As this will limit your vertical adjustment to less than it could be with the reticle centered. Just a thought. Stupid question, but can the base be installed backwards?

Have you called the techs at Nightforce? Boltfluter is right, with lots of windage cranked in, the reticle won't have full range of movement.

Really would benefit from using a boresighting collimator like bushnell 74-3333. This gives you a grid for reference and to observe or calculate your scope's movements. I would call NF though. Maybe verify your base is still tight fastened to the rifle.

Thanks, Windage seemed pretty centered, i counted the clicks and mechanically centered it, I am going to try it again tomorrow or saturday and hopefully that fixes it. if it doesn't, i will call nightforce. Thanks for the help and knowledge guys!

Make sure the objective bell is not touching the front of the rail.

Try switching the rings around front to back and back one to the front.

With a 20 moa base, my nightgorce BR would also bottom out a couple inches high at 100. I didn't care because I only used the rifle for 600 and 1000 yd FTR. I would only shoot 100 yd to validate a load or if I had to disassemble and needed to confirm a zero.

My Leupold comp 45x with 20moa base bottoms out at 100 yards by several inches,.

The last two posters have it right. the scope doesnt have enough elevation. its got 40moa total, and combine that with the rail, it doesnt have enough to zero at 100. its spot on at 200 though. will probably sell the scope and get something with a little more elevation range.

jt,
By any chance, has that scope been on any other rifles? If so, I was recently advised by a scope tech for a reputable scope company that sometimes, when changing a scope to a different rifle, the old settings need to be "taken out" and the internals need to be re-zeroed like when it left the factory. Food for thought if that situation applies, especially on a 20 MOA base. You might consider calling Nightforce yourself for directions.

Listen to what the guys are saying. If you have a BR scope, the 8-32 has 50 MOA elevation (25 from centre to bottoming out) & the 12-42 has 40 (20 from centre to bottoming out). Put it on a 20 MOA rail & you blow 20 MOA of that elevation.

This means that in a perfect world, you'll likely bottom out a 12-42 trying to get a 100 yard zero & won't have much wriggle room with the 8-32. But the world usually isn't perfect. Your barrel might not be aligned with the action or it might have a bit of droop to it, you scope mount might not be true with the centreline of the action (and most would say that's not surprising the way they machine Remingtons), so it's in no way surprising - more to the point, it could be expected - that you've run out of capability to get a 100 yard zero without even considering blaming the scope.

You have too much rail for your rig. Try a 10 MOA one or Burris signature zee rings on a standard base as has been suggested.
