Two rifles only

I decided to stay with the 280ai. 7RM is probably a better all around hoofed critter rifle. I rarely get the chance to hunt out west.

Don't laugh but I have one of those too. Its my Light weight carry rifle.. LOL. 162gr with IMR 7828SSC : )

Jon Beanland (gunsmith) reccomended a 300wm or a 28 Nosler to me. I have always stayed away from the belted cartridges out of a superstitious belief that they were innately flawed. Jon said he has had great accuracy out of his 300wm builds. For all intents and purposes a 7 RM would be an ideal cartridge for me. As I said earlier, I am going to stick where I am this year. I have no hunts planned out of TN this year. Unless we have a southern Moose and Elk migration this year I am adequately gunned with the 6.5L and the 280ai. My 7 year old son is good to go with his Savage Axis Youth 7mm-08. He thinks it is the best rifle ever.

I have a 6.5x47 and 280AI beanland built too, love his rifles. I also have a 338Lapua and some other rifles that are larger than the 280AI. However I find myself always grabbing the 280AI when I take the rifle I'm most comfortable with. I also have a 7saum I like a lot. I'm getting ready to try the 280AI on some African plains game, June. I live in Az and long shots are common in the country we hunt.

You have more control than me when it comes to the two rifle thing, I think less triggers, less calibers makes sense it just hard to do for some, me included. I get the $$$ for other hobbies too. I still have a helf dozen Sage rods and a Billy pate reel that have been in the closet since the 90s. I use them once every four years or so when I go back for a Silver run and use that for my justification to keep them.

Sharks will outlast humans here, believe me. Perhaps not every single species of shark, but I'm not losing any sleep over them. Nor over polar bears. Millions of species have gone extinct on this rock without human influence, it's perfectly natural. But if any species goes extinct now, it's our fault, and a "tragedy".

The Japanese fishing fleets and buyers are crushing their numbers. If you read the rest of my post, I do not think sport fishing is the problem. Hunters and fishermen are the best conservationists on the planet. I do not fish for sharks because I don't want to. I mainly fly fish for more sporting fish.

I have at least 5 Sage Rods. Sold my Billy Pate and bought Tibors. Have an Abel reel that has never been out of the box. I think the Pate reels are the coolest. They were just heavy and did not have a large arbor.

Ive had guys want the Billy Pate but I cant let it go, too cool. Like you said, multiple hobbies add up$$$

I just ordered some of the new Berger 135 gr 6.5mm Classic Hunters. Going to try them with the 6.5x47.

I have been shooting the 168 VLD and RL 26. Getting a tic over 2900 fps out of a 24" barrel. Averages under .5" easily. Took me a while to get a good load for the 168gr.

I have two rifles for medium to large game for hunting. 30-06 and a .243. Will shoot anything in north america and is admittedly old school. In your case, stick with the .280AI and if you want a new gun, lose the 6.5x47. I just don't see a range of application for that rifle. The 280 will kill everything from elk on down and do it farther out than you probably will ever shoot at an animal. My long time friend and hunting partner has a Nosler custom in 280AI and has not used another rifle since. The 28 Nosler will provide nothing more IMHO. If you want bigger, go big! .338! There's lots of choices and the BC's are about the best you can get. RUM, WinMag, Weatherby, or if you want new tech, Lapua.

The 6.5x47 fills the Southern Whitetail niche pretty well. Same niche as the 7mm-08, 260, 243 etc.... 400y and closer.

Hey CTK: I have to admit I was wrong about you! At first, I took you to be a cheap "minimalist". Trying to cover all the bases with 2 guns. Now, I see you as a very reasonable guy that seems to have controlled his "urges" better than most of us. Besides, guys that shoot and fly fish have to stick together. I have a corner full of fly rods. I have a closet full of boat rods. Just the boating accessories fill half the attic. I have a "dirt bike" in my garage that I haven't ridden in 20 years. Yeah, I have too much stuff! No wonder my wife is "after me" about my hobbies! My hat is off to you! I'm making a pledge to get rid of all my stuff. Where did I put my "Last Will and Testament"?
