I Broke my Lee auto prime, need recommendations for a new one

I like my old RCBS bench unit, used since 1978. This priming tool lets me put my weight on the handle, very useful when seating Russian primers. ;) I still have a Lee, nearly as old and fully functional.

I use my RCBS Bench unit for really big stuff. CheyTac 375HE and really small stuff like .17/5.7x28. I may try to make adapters for 50 cal.

For everything "normal", I use RCBS Universal. I have 2 one for large primer and one for small primer. It only takes a few minutes to switch but why...

I see all these broken Lee tools, anyone still have a couple of the old round lids lying around?

Bought a couple newer square lid models with some sort of operator safety plunger thingamabob. Thru them in a box and went back to my old round ones but am short a couple lids.

Totally agree with this. I bought a new one after using the old one for decades and sent it back after 100 primers and the end of my patience by the end of the same 1000 primers.
Yeah Me To I got a couple of the new ones and they are junk. Luckily I had a few of my old ones and was able to get some parts from people. I do think though the new body will work with the old parts wont it not sure but its worth a try.

Topstrap,I got a cpl round lids from FS Reloading awhile back.

Still using two old round original Lees.Keep them well lubed. These have been solid performers.

Thanks for the thread, been looking at the bench models from different co's.

i'm still using 4 of the old round types i do it this way so i dont have to swap primer out everytime i swap from pistol to rifle i rubber band the primer box on the top so i can tell the difference (also keep my pistol and rifle on opposite ends of the table)

John has an extra one he is sending my way. thanks John
I should have qualified my type of shooting that I need this for also. high volume Squirrel shooting (4000+ rds a year)

You must have some strong thumbs, then, doing all those on a Lee Autoprime. I love mine (old version) but with tight primer pockets it takes all I have from both thumbs to seat a bit crushed. And I only ever do 80 or less at a time.

Holy cow thats for sure-- priming new lapua 6br brass with an old lee autoprime and I almost wasnt strong enough to get er done.

I agree the old Lee round tray or even the square tray work fine for me. The new triangular ones are a POS. Lee are you listening?

It does help to keep the Lee greased internally at the metal-to-metal pivot point. Also, uniforming the primer pockets will usually deepen them a bit, which puts the Lee a tiny bit closer to the fully extended, max-leverage position as the primer anvil is being crushed (pre-loaded).
