6 Dasher & 6 BR in 5R rifling?

I read in another post that a member did not recommend a 5R rifling in a Dasher. That is the first time I recall hearing that comment on 5R rifling. Just wondering if anyone else had thoughts on this. Also what are your thoughts on 5R in a 6BR? Most of the barrel makes offer 5R in 6mm. This would be for 105-110 gr. bullets of course. I don't see any problem with 5r or 4groove or 6groove what it is only downfall to odd grooves is unless you slug a barrel you cant measure groove dimension on a 5 groove barrel unless you have special tools

I think you'll find it's more to do with the bullet and the short range bullets prefer the 4 groove. Bartlien recommend the use of 4 groove barrels in their slow twist (13-15 twist in 6mm and 17 twist in 30 cal) barrels in 6mm and 30 cal.

I think if your looking for the absolute in bench rest accuracy and your personally capable of that of ability then 5R is the wrong choice otherwise 5R's are great.

shooting a straight 6BR with Krieger 8 twist .236 bore 5R and it shoots scary accurate groups.

5r - 4grove - this twist that twist - Krieger - Bartlein - Brux, lets face it, a good percentage of shooters out there weather they admit or not have guns built that are better than there abilities, I am for sure one of those guys... My gun builder produces some of the nicest guns out there at Dixie Precision Rifles. He has a saying that I live by... At the end of the day when all is said and done it is "The Indian Pulling the String that makes the difference...

For several years, all the barrels I used were 4-groove, but then in 2012 I chambered two 5R's (a Benchmark and a Bartlien). Both shoot par or better to any 4-groove that I myself have had. Other notes I will make to my 5R's: they both clean out very easily and null copper, and have trended to throat erode a little less and/or not as fast.

Well I tend to agree there is a lot of R&D amongst barrel manufacturing this an that I achieved what I have done in the long range sport shooting a 4groove 6mm An a30caliber 4groove barrel. PS Great job Tom you definitely made these records harder to reach I will keep after it though lord willing.

I could scrounge up a half dozen or so really nice targets shot with 5r barrels to show you guys. Instead I'll just show "the wall", and mention that every last accomplishment on there was fired using a krieger 4 groove .

Yes I was, but I was using 4 groove .237 Krieger in the last match for the 1.7 inch group, so I might change my ways !!

Fwiw, I've been told by two different barrel makers, who offer both standard and r/c rifling patterns as well as 4 and 5 groove configurations, that the notion that 6mm slow twist barrels not performing up to par are limited to the 6ppc cartridge with n133 powder, specifically. I've had a few and seen several more very good shooting 6br's and variants of it, using 5 groove canted land rifling, using varget and similar powders. The way it was explained to me, it has to do with how n133 in the ppc cartridge, builds pressure with the different rifling patterns and that this does not apply to other cartridge/powder combinations. As for 30 call slow twist barrels and the same subject...I've won a lot of fake wood with slow twist light bullets in the small 30's. Take it FWIW,but this info came straight from, not one, but two..of the horses mouths and I agree with it. At least where a 6br is concerned, it's still about good bullets and barrels...and of course the man pulling the trigger.---Mike Ezell

Don't you have a wide angle lens. LOL. I have seen quite a few great groups and aggs shot with a Broughton 5C. Also with Krieger 4 grooves. It seems nobody I know of at Williamsport shoots a 5R Krieger. Mostly 4 groove And about 50/50 with .236 or .237. MATT
