Honestly, this really happened!! Don't Laugh

Now that's the way to truly test ammunition and it's effectiveness. Sounds like the .35 Rem will be the newest Cape buffalo round.

About five or six years ago three Bison got loose not long before deer season. They were able to round up two of them within a week or so, the third one was running free almost a month so DNR put the word out it could be taken with a valid deer license. My friend saw it coming through the woods opening day and let it have it with his 7mm Rem. DNR came out and recovered the animal. Very strange to see a Bison walking through the east coast woods.

The 22 LR, would have more than enough rifle,
to humanely put it down with 1S1K.
And for future info, here is the easy way to do it, really. ;)

With the critter looking at you head on,
draw an imaginary line from one ear socket,
diagonal across to the opposite eye,
do the same with the other side.

Where these 2 lines intersect on the forehead,
placed the 22 LR bullet at that junction/intersection
the critter will bounce as It hits the ground.

You have over 30 seconds to cut the throat, to bleed them out,
Horses/cows all react the same.
I have put down a hundred+ critters this way,
over the last 50+ yrs.

In fact, a 1800# heifer was just dispatched this way,
less than 2 weeks ago here,at the ranch.

Waiting for the call to go pick up the meat.
Yum, Yum :D

This is what was used in my family's packing plant for many years. Single-shot .22 rifle. This eventually was changed to a blank-powered impact device. A tap on the noggin fired the blank that popped a piston into the skull producing an instant kill without contaminating the brain.
Not saying I'd have chosen the .22 under the given circumstances.

Mike, there truly is a difference between PMS and mad cow disease. 2 Teets!

Now we are both in trouble Drew. Lol. I just got back from a very long trip of 4 days with no deep wounds. Ha. Well at least she's not drawing a line between my ear sockets and eyes yet. Lol

I've had a couple scrapes with irate bulls. Did you ever try to run with an 8 foot fly rod, a creel full of fish and a heavy vest while wearing a size too big chest waders? It can get real ugly, real fast. Across the creek and up a steep rocky bank was all that save my butt.
Another time, after the morning deer hunt, I was walking back to my truck past a pen adjacent to a barn and like a jackass thought I'd have a little fun with the bull. Took out my grunt call and gave him a couple blasts. BIG mistake. He charged and stopped just before he got to one of those skinny wire fences that wouldn't hold a rabbit. Needless to say, I never did that again. Gave him a wide berth and he still looked at me like he was just waiting to hear that grunt call so he could give me a horn up the keister. Man, the stuff you do when you're young and dumb.:po_O

We went out to film a deer hunt and got busted right before getting to the stand around 50 yrds. Dead flashlight and not any moonlight to speak of, the buck blew like hell at our getting in his space soo like I won't ever do again I grunted to him, he charged right up to us and stopped right in front of us when I pointed the dead flashlight at him. We couldn't see him right in front of us but there was no where to go but to the tree stand. He walked right along with us and circled the tree for several minutes before light. Never saw him but I damn sure won't do that again!

I was guiding some rifle toters one time.Had them set up on a stand, good guys, good shooters.

I'm sportin a jacked up recurve and am hell bent on getting these boys a bruiser. No scents,no callers. The plan was for me to go roust up this buck everybody knew was up in there(deep in the Blue Ridge mnts)....and send him down twds the stand hunters.

So I'm up in some pretty thick stuff, raking the ground with branches, swishing leaves, and throwing in some lip squeaks. This bruiser buck comes at me with fire in his eyes....head down,DEAD serious.I get up and start yelling. No effect,he keeps getting more pissed.I finally had to fend him off with my bow.Would I do it again?Yup.

Another pig hunt to remember or forget !!
I hunt pigs with holding dogs - catch dogs, I hunt in the sugar cane, here in Queensland , and pigs love it!
It had been raining, and turn to a nice fresh day, that's me I'm going, loaded up the three dogs
Arrived at the block and the dogs took off keen as mustard !
As I walked down the headland
I noticed one of the dogs tracking back towards me, the others were long gone, as he got closer he ran straight in to the cane block 20-30 meters away ,so I stopped to see what he was doing,
Full grown cane ten feet high as thick as your wrist, not conclusive to fast get away!!
I could not hear any pig noise,
But I could hear the cane cracking, I thought he must be trying to dig out a echidna they smell like a pig,
Well to my surprise he had hold of one of the biggest pigs of my career, and that boar was breaking off cane with my 35kgs dog,
I tried to grab his back leg but its girth and mud presented a problem, so i went for his tail , not my usual hold, as I grabbed him he lunged forward, pulling me flat on my face feet tangled the row of cane, as I pushed myself up out of the mud,the pig backed up and stood on my hand, this was starting to get REAL, then he decided to swing the dog around to shake him off, well I'm on my hand and knees, with a face full of mud
When the pig smacked me in the middle of the back with my 35kgs dog, which pushed straight back to the mud , well I got the pig and a very sore back
I was 58 a the time
Ahh the things we do when your old enough to know better.
If your thinking why didn't he just shoot it , I only Carry a knife when hunting the dogs !!

My wife's family are a bunch of horse idiots. Sleep, eat. live, breath and die horses. In fact, if they have a get together and dinner event as soon as the conversation turns from horses to say the weather...they all get up and leave to resume talking about horses.
I come along and they all see someone to do the job nobody wants...putting down the horses that need it. Personally, I think they all do, so that made me the guy. I figured out that the "right between the eyes" shot is no good the first time I saw some moron try it and the horse took off with blood flying out of it's nose. "Right between the eyes" of a horse or cow is nothing but sinus cavity and it DOES NOT kill them. I have seen one drop, only to get back up kicking and thrashing until it was properly dispatched as detailed in Nvreloader's post. An x between the ears and eyes will drop them instantly, but when people start talking that "right between the eyes" B.S. I know they have never really even seen it, let alone done it or they would not make that claim because it aint pretty.
I probably have put down a horse at least every other month since I married this gal!!!

Only time I seen a nasty bull was when my cousin said he was going to help his buddy get his bull into a trailer. What a bad mistake that was. As soon as the bull seen that trailer it took off running, and like it wasn't even there went through four strands of barbed wire without missing a stride. From then on I have all the respect for those beasts.

I can see two things wrong with this, ONE: a 4-h or FFA project such as a show steer, should not have a mean bone in his body by the time he is old enough to be around 1100 lbs. some kids isn't doing his job very well! TWO: a 35 Remington!!?? Holy cow! ( no pun intended) we have shot and killed a many of bovine with a 22 short from about 25 to 45 yards.
