270 Winchester pet loads?

130g Nosler-58g of R#22-Fed 210

55g of IMR 4350-9 1/2

IMR 7828 I think give the best accuracy with speed, but I can not put my finger on the load-215 PRIMER

I seat the bullet to touch the lands

Mag Pro powder is EXTREMELY fast with 130-150g bullets.

This thread was started in 2017. Since then, I have found two killer loads.

110g tipped tripple shock, see post below

Same load above work with 110g Sierra pro hunter and 110g Hornady hp with same point of impact(zero).

I will NEVER shoot another 130g bullet again, ever!

I put myself a 270 together with Krieger chromolly tube and it loves 130 gr Nosler Accubonds over 55.5 gr H4350. My new favorite rifle.

My rifle likes 49.5 gr. IMR 4320 with just about any 130 grain bullet. I get anywhere from 2850 fps to 2925 fps depending on bullet and the influence of gremlins.

A 130 grain Sierra Pro-Hunter with 56.5 grains of RL-22, Remington case and a Remington 9-1/2 Large Rifle Primer = sub MOA groups at 100/200/300 yards in a 1982 factory Winchester Model 70 XTR.

I thought this was a fluke the first few times at the range, but it has proven to be consistent over the years - I'm not changing a thing!

I love the 110g Sierra Pro hunter, 110g Tipped triple shock, and for varmints, the Hornady 110g HP with the 110g V max.

58g of Win 760
9 1/2 primer is all over 3400 fps and shoots 1/2" groups or less

57-58g of R#17
Fed 215 primer is 3350

110g tipped triple shocks are fantastic killers at any angle on the largest deer.

Over the deer that I have shot with the 110g Sierra and the 130g Sierra, the 110 kills faster...no decision here.

IMR 4350 has always been the most accurate in all the 270's i have owned and own..lit by a rem 9 1/2.
I have shot a ton a 130 NBT and RL22.. But for last 5-6 years have been shooting the Berger 150 VLD and it really makes the 270 all it can be...I now have the Hornady 145 ELD-x's and i am currently working a load with RL17
looking for 3,150 FPS....My 24" barrel has had no problem launching the 150 VLD's at 3,050 FPS..With good old IMR 4350 kind of a hot load.. After seeing a few guy's have good results with the ELD-x's in 7 bore i have to try them in my good old 270.

Hodgon lists a load of 64.0grns of H1000. I'm curious about that.
I have shot a lot of H1K in the 270 win..150VLD's...very consistent ...You will need a drop tube and a slow fill to get er packed in there...2,950 FPS with a 150 VLD...and kicks like a 7MAG...I don't know why but when ever you pac slow powders they thump harder...I went back to IMR4350 and got 3,050 FPS and feels like half the recoil. But I have shot the H1K for a year or two and i would say it is very consistent and accurate..I shot it out to 1K...
Most people do not understand Ballistic the 270 win with a 150 is ballistic superior to the 30/06 and it has been used for 1K for a long time..Truth is the 270 is a great round and gives a high BC and high SD. It can only be out performed by your high BC 6.5's and 7 bores or a big magnum. And we have shot the 7 mag and 300 mag's and yet we keep coming back to that 270...it works...

55g of IMR 4350-9 1/2

In the old days that was the MO with any 270 load 55.0 55.5 56.0 of IMR4350/rem 9 1/2 and one of them three charges would shoot 3 shot you could cover with a dime at 100 yards...with a 130 ball.=factory rifle
we have so many new powders and bullets now days..
the old stand by H4831 surplus powder 60.0grs stuff a bullet on it.. it shoot's well but never like IMR4350

FJIM, I found that a barrel will either love the 55g of IMR 4350 or hate it, not much inbetween.

That 110g Tipped triple shock is a Mashemflatmagnum load for a 270, no kidding. Hard to believe how flat shooting it is to 300yds that I have shot.

I have wanted to kill a coyote with that 110g V max, should be very humane.

well I have owned 6 270win's and have one now..I think everyone I hunt with has owned one or two over the years
so I am going with about 20 different 270 win's ...all factory rifles and I have never seen one not shoot IMR4350 very well...with a 130..We always loaded up to 56.0 I had one at 55.8 grs was in a hole..I should have never got rid of it.
we shoot 54.0 behind a 150....I have shot a lot of H4381,RL22,H1000 but RL22 and IMR4350 the most..now I am working with RL17 don't know how it's going to work yet. I may try some RL26,23 just playing with some newer powders and the 145 ELD-X. I hunt mostly with a 6mm 105...no need for all that power..but we have been seeing a lot of black bears where we generally do not have black bears..so I said better break out the 270.. I worry about having to shoot one up close...I have no problem dumping one at 200 400 yards with a 6mm 105 just worry about one at 50 yards.

I have a box of 110 V max's ..I know a guy who deer hunts with them and swears he never had one move and he always try's to get me to try them..but we shoot far..I killed a doe at 750 yards with a 130NBT 25 years ago..most of our shots can be 200 to 600 normally. but can get out even farther..So we always try to have any range covered..I have had a 270 since I was 16 years old,now 50..I do not like the light bullets,i have shot them..IMO worthless beyond 300 yards..so even ground hog hunting we had better luck with the 130's..at 3,100 FPS..we consider a 300 yard shot on a ground hog a give me shot...that is just using Kentucky windage.. IMO the 270win is under rated..but not around where I live..I think everone around here has a 270.It is know as a killer around here.

I have not had a .270 for awhile. As a matter of fact, the first one I had shot SURPLUS H4831. I don't know where that falls on the burn rate chart compared to the new H4831SC. But I shot 59.0grs of it behind a 130 SGK. Super accurate. Then I got into the Nosler B-Tips. Basically the same performance on Deer as the GameKing. I tried several powders but H4831 always seemed to come out on top. However, one that was very close was RL-19. RL-19 topped the speed of H4831 but could not quite reach the accuracy level. In another rifle, RL-19 could prove better.

accuracy sometimes is personal...My very first loads with my current 270 was H4831 and it shoot well but not as well as IMR4350 and that has been the case with every 270 I have played with.IMR4350 cut that group size in half and is faster. not that H4831 is bad..I also have tried H4350 and have not got it to work as well..don't know why.look at the date on that target.

I have had my Browning BAR Safari II for 20 years. For years I went with the 110Vmax & W70. Ridiculous small groups. Killed ok. Had to be directly in the boiler room tho. I started to see run offs for some reason. I decided to dedicate it to a long range/wind coyote blaster and going with the high bc of the Berger 130's. Like with all Bergers, finding the load is almost a entire box of bullets. I found one tho. 1/2 MOA. Only problem was the bullet penciled tho the Yotes.
I have been paying attention to A-Man's advise on killing Yotes lately. I am now going with a 90 sierra for search and destroy missions on coyotes. Bagged only one so far. Using 57.5 of H414 for 3150 FPS. Seems low, but the drops confirm out to 425 yards. Having some cycling issues at the moment with the BAR. Might have to take it in for repair/cleaning at the end of the season.

My go to load is Speer or Sierra 90gr HPs with 64gr of RL17 and CCI primers.
It is a 4000 fps load and is good for anything with fur from 1 pound to over 100.
