Thoughts on Virtual F-Class Matches at Talladega CMP (Quarterly)

Talladega is too nice a facility not to have a quality F-Class match, and my buddies and I may have brainstormed a way to work around the target bugaboos with a virtual F-Class match. It seems that most of the errors are during formal matches when everyone is firing at once and the electronic system is in official match mode. We've visited a bunch of times now, and never had a target problem except during matches. This observation, combined with an allowance for participants to shoot alibis matches if there are target scoring errors, should allow for some fun and interesting competition.

The basic idea is to have virtual quarterly 3x600 and 3x300 tournaments where participants get down there and shoot when they can and report the scores to the match director (likely me) by email, complete with supporting documentation (likely pictures of the scoring screens, and a scan or decent picture of the payment receipt). Other than the range entry costs, there would be no cost for entering the matches (and no prize money). I can probably arrange for PDF certificates for winning competitors. I envision the usual divisions and classifications, with a likely addition of an F-Bench category in addition to F-TR and F-Open.

Winners would likely be announced here and possibly other shooting sites.

What do y'all think? Suggestions for rules regarding the alibis matches for electronic target errors? Honor system? Or buddy system requiring small groups witness and certify each other's scores? Other ideas?

If its too nice of facility, there should be mo need for this "virtual" f class match.

They don't care about the shooters. Plenty of other places to shoot.
Just my humble opinion.

I've been to this facility numerous times (I live 45 miles away) and have experienced multiple issues shooting alone with only a few people on the line. The issues are not solely related to bandwidth.

So everyone is not shooting with the same temperature, wind, mirage, etc???????????

That's how all postal/email matches work. Sure, some shooters can get lucky and game the system by waiting for ideal conditions. But most will simply go and shoot when they can. Conditions are less important for the 3x300 than for the 3x600. One can always shoot the 3x300 if conditions are less favorable at 600.

Central Alabama Gun Club has a 2x300 quarterly F-Class where shooters shoot under varying conditions. The first shooters of the day begin firing at 9:00 AM. The last shooters of the day begin firing at 2:00 PM.

Thanks for the feedback. Building in a provision for alibis matches is the best I think we could do to address this concern. If you have a problem, request a different firing position (to shoot on a different target) and reshoot the match.

Have they figured out a way to put a target face on the black orb?

Last I'd read or heard CMP didn't understand yet that F'rs hold off on the rings and don't dial (Scott not withstanding)

I was gonna leave it between each shooter and CMP management what their target faces look like. Last I heard, this effort was still a work in progress.

The pic of a screen from a recent practice F-Class match seems to indicate that pretty high scores are possible with the existing target faces (black orb).
