25-06 powder choice

i will be working with a new 25-06 barrel and would like input on optimum powders. i will be loading 115 gr nosler BT bullets for deer. Over the years I have worked mostly with H4831 but might like one nof the new IMR powders (7977 for example)

H 4831SC works well for 115 Bergers. IMR 4350 foe 85gn Nosler BTs. Both shot from a Weatherby S-2 24".
For the new IMR powders 4451 and 4955 look interesting. They are supposed to be in the same ball park as 4831 and 4350. I'm no expert here so do you're home work. Good luck, keep us posted. E

Can't help you on the "optimum powders" but for my rifles H4831SC is awful hard to beat. Great velocity and great accuracy out of several bullets from 75 gr to 115 gr. Good Luck on your search and keep us informed. The 25-06 is a great rifle.

4831SC for 110 gr. Accubonds

IMR4064 for 75 gr. VMax

Both shoot lights out in my .25-06. With my rifle the closer I got to "book" max loads the better it grouped.

Been shooting the 25-06 for a looooog time and H4831 or IMR or AA 4350 is all I ever use. I am of the old school "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it." Never tried any of the new powders.

I have been shooting the IMR 4350 with the 100grn Sierra flat base since 1972. It is very accurate and very flat.
None of the heavier bullets were particularly accurate in my rifle.

Recently developed a load for a friend's rifle with this powder and bullet, Federal cases, and WLR primers. Very good results.

With weights under 120 grains, I've had good success with H4831. I use WC870 for the 120s.

I have been shooting a 25-06 for over 60 years and used to use only 4831 powder. about 10 years ago I was asked to try berger bullets and my like was changed forever! I now only load 115 bergers over h-1000 and it does 3105fps out of my 26in barrel on a Remington sender. I reload for 5 different people and they all use the same load. I used to load nosler bt but the bergers just plainly cant be beat. I have tried the nosler accrabonds but I don't have any guns or caliber that shoots them worth a shit. this gun still shoots half inch groups.

^^^^^ + 1 on the Berger 115's. Accuracy in my 25-06 with LV contour barrel is superb. If I were a better shooter it would probably be "lights out, all day long". :D

For 115 and 120 gr bullets, I recently switched to IMR 7828SSC from 4831 or RE-22. Should find a node between 54 and 55 gr. This is in a 9 twist barrel. Very accurate.

I'd try RL22 for accuracy and top velocity. If the deer are good sized in your area I would try the accubonds. better penetration if needed on quartering shots.

I really like h-1000 and retumbo for 26" barrels with 115 bergers. I'm shooting 60gr of retumbo out of my sendero runnin just a touch over 3200 with the 115's.

What twist are you using or the 115gr Bergers? I am getting ready to build my first 25-06 on a older Tikka M658 with a Bartlein 10 twist?
