Long Range Competition For Disabled Shooter

Hi All, I currently shoot in FCSA (Fifty Caliber Shooters Assoc) 1000 yd Competitions. It was the first Competitive Shooting I was introduced too about 4 years ago.

I am also interested in shooting in competitions with smaller calibers at long range, but I haven't found the type match that meets my needs. I am disabled and shoot from a bench. Due to my injuries, I'm unable to shoot from a prone position, nor from a sitting/kneeling (directly on the ground) position. I have a very difficult to nearly impossible problem of getting up off the ground, without assistance. I walk with a cane and falling is my greatest fear, due to not being able to get up on my own. I do pull targets still, and use my shooting stool to sit between targets at the FCSA Matches.

I looked into F-Class but from what I've been able to discern from reading, my limitations prevent shooting in F-Class.

Is there any type competitive shooting, that will allow a disabled person, such as myself, shoot from a bench? I would prefer longer distance shooting, say greater than 500 yards, but not an absolute must. Any and all guidance would be appreciated.

I'm located in Minnesota, but willing to travel, if I can find a competition that fits my abilities.

Thank you and Merry Christmas

At Williamsport 1000 yard bench rest club. We have had guys in wheelchairs and did accommodate them. It is off the bench and 1000 yards. They even made a ramp so he could wheel up and get higher on the bench to shoot his gun. Matt

St Louis Mo and Big Piney in Houston Mo you can shoot 600 yd F class
from a bench.

Maybe you and Bob Depp should have a talk.

My thoughts exactly. Winnequah Gun club in Lodi Wisconsin is near you. With the electronic targets they have, it will even be better. You should give F-Class a try. I'm sure the good folks there will do everything possible to get you shooting.

Bob Depp is a true American Hero.

ALL of that is true!

Especially the last part about Mr. Depp.

I'm fortunate enought to be able to call him a friend, we've known one another for about 12 years now. Here's a pic I snagged off another website showing him competing at Camp Perry:

Check out the IBS website, long range schedule (600 and 1000 yards). I would consider all IBS ranges that I've been to accessible to any one. Great people too.

Contact the NRA and they will grant you a waiver to shoot from a stool or bench in F-Class. As mentioned it has happened before with Mr. Depp. He has competed in our Nationals for many years and is always a joy to be around.

Thank you all. I live about 1 hr south of Gopher in Harris, MN. The WI ranges and shoots would also be doable. I believe I will try to attend the earliest matches at GRRC and get an idea of what I'm going to need, and how those matches are run.

I believe I know a fellow 50 shooter that competes with smaller caliber guns at Lodi, WI too. I will also check into the NRA and see how they might find a way or waiver to shoot in those matches as well.

Thanks,

Jim

PS: Happy New Year
