Long Range Competition

Is there any Long range (500 to 1000) yd competitions that SP pistols can be used for shooting?

When I say SP pistols, I am talking about Xp-100 type of pistols etc with 14 to 18" + barrel lengths, calibers from 224 up thru 338+.

I looked under F class and it is for rifle from what I gathered by the rules I have read so far.
I know a stupid question, but I had to ask.

Tom,
Sadly I do not believe there is any organized Long Range Competition for Specialty Pistols other than Silhouette, and that is not going to get you very close to your question of up to a 1,000 yds. Even the IHMSA is having trouble getting shooters to come to there Silhouette matches these days.

What you may however be able to find is some club matches that will stretch there legs out that far. Finding one in your area may be difficult, depending on what area that is. If you are out west you just may find some like minded folks.

Here is a web-site if you don't know about them take a look. This site is dedicated to SP.

You'll probably just have to do like we have done, show up at a tactical or long range steel plate match the rifles guys participate in. We got lucky and they laughingly said sure, then wondered if they made a mistake :).

I'd think there would be some long range rifle matches somewhere around you, not specific for your long range pistol and you may have to adapt a bit to shoot the match the same way the rifle guys do but it can be done.

I think the one we shoot ( http://www.raynersrange.com/ ) is one of the few that has long range pistol participants and lets us compete right along with the long range rifle guys for their 1000 steel plate matches. The one time a year MOA shoot out west could be another to look into. Thunder Valley Precision, ( http://thundervalleyprecision.com/ )also here in Ohio has allowed us to shoot the matches but we can't disrupt the regular flow of the match and have to shoot in similar positions as the rifles. No special class for them, just heads up competition.

Doc, the fella that runs Hardrock said we could bring them down but had to "qualify" the same as the rifle and hit a steel plate within the first five shots at 600 yards (I think) before being allowed to continue the match. I also think you have to know someone or talk to them before hand to be allowed to participate. You may have to demonstrate you can be competitive before some matches will let you join in to show your gun can shoot that far and you can shoot it that far.

We're slowly getting more interest from others that we let shoot ours on practice days so maybe the interest will slowly grow. I think at first they are doubtful you can hit anything, then it goes into the "they got lucky hits" then the "son of a gun they shoot pretty good" then hmmmm, maybe we shouldn't have allowed them. Fun stuff, never be as big as IHMSA was but gives us old IHMSA shooters another challenge.

Good Luck
